Misunderstood Prophecy

Matthew 27:23-25

23 And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.

24 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.

25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

These words have been used for centuries to raise rage against God’s Chosen People. There are many who use these verses to say the Jews are Christ killers. How sad that these people do not understand the fact that NO ONE KILLED JESUS. No one could. The Scripture makes in extremely plain that Christ was a willing sacrifice. The Passover Lamb. No power on earth could take Jesus Christ’s life from Him. Jesus said, “Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.” ( John 10:17-18) Right here should be a problem passage for all those who claim the Jews killed Jesus. Certainly God uses man to accomplish His perfect designs for His world and His perfect plan for man’s salvation. God used the hardened hearts of some of the Jewish leadership to have Rome order the crucifixion of Jesus, and Pilate had no power over Christ except that which was granted him from God.

There is to be future fulfillment in the words, “His blood be on us, and on our children.” It is the blood of the Perfect Lamb of God that was shed for the sins of the world. So as Paul wrote, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit in Romans 11:25-26,“For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob.” Could it just be that the Jews who yelled that day did so in a misunderstood prophecy? Yes, there were those who did get caught up in the frenzy of another man's pain and suffering. He was different than they, He was sinless and perfect and mankind is fallen and sinful. His was a nature of perfection, man's is a sin nature. But, the time will come when Israel shall be saved. Washed clean with the blood of Jesus Christ.

Remember that Caiaphus prophesized without knowing it when he spoke as recorded in John 11:49-50, “And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all, Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.” And indeed it was. For only through the perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ could Israel and all nations ever be blessed with forgiveness of sins. Perhaps in the mind of man it seems that there could have been another way, a way without so much pain and blood. Yet, in the Word of God it states plainly, in Hebrews 9:20-28, “Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you. 21 Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry. 22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. 23 It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: 25 Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; 26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: 28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.”

It was the plan and purpose of God that Christ should come into the world at that exact time. Nothing that happened was by accident. There was nothing that anyone could do to change the plan of God. Man only carried out what God intended to be done in His perfect plan for man’s salvation. Christ died on the cross willingly so that we might have salvation and thereby eternal life. Had Jesus not died for our sins, how could we have paid such a debt? The answer we could not! Result? We would die in our sins and thereby be separated from God forever.

Why is it that the world wishes to blame the Jews for the death of Christ, when Israel as a conquered nation had no law allowing them to execute anyone? Only the Roman authority could do this. Why does the world not hold Rome responsible for the crucifixion of Christ? The answer is Satanic! Yes, Satanic. Satan knows the Scriptures and the promises to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob better than most of the world today. He understands God has a plan for Israel. Satan has tried to destroy the promised seed ever since the fall of man. Then when God made the covenant with Abraham, Satan wanted to destroy the promised line.

Satan tried to do everything he could to destroy the line that would produce the Messiah. Just look, for example at Israel’s slavery and oppression in Egypt. There was Pharaoh’s order that all baby boys be killed at birth. Why? Pharaoh was afraid that Israel would become a mightier nation than Egypt and aid any foe which came against his nation. The plan did not began in Pharaoh’s mind without the aid of Satanic influence. What a perfect way to stop the coming Messiah than to kill all the future males. But, God would not allow this. The more Pharaoh cursed the children of Israel the more they prospered and grew. This is Biblical. The LORD said to Abraham, “And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” (Gen 12:3) This has not changed. The promise of blessing to those who would bless Abraham is the same promise to those who bless Israel today. Likewise, those who curse Israel will be cursed.

What happened to Egypt? The plagues came, and eventually all of their first born died. Israel was free and they took with them the spoils of Egypt. Egypt was cursed, because they oppressed Israel, God’s Chosen People.

Satan continued in his attempt to stop the coming of the Messiah. Think about the baby boys in Nazareth at the time of the birth of Jesus. Here again Satanic influence was attempting to stop God’s plan for the salvation of mankind. Satan’s plan failed because God is in control. God knew in eternity past what Satan would plan at that very moment in time. Satan should know that he cannot defeat God, but he continues to try.

He tried to tempt Christ, and failed. He encouraged the people to yell for the death of Christ, yet Jesus had come willingly to go to the cross for the salvation of the world. Satan, by encouraging the crowd to turn against Christ was actually doing more that promoting Christ’s death. Satan knew Jesus was God. He understood that there was no way to kill God. But, Satan had his own master plan. By encouraging the crowd to yell “His blood be on us, and on our children,” he knew that he could use this against the Chosen People in the future. He knew he could not stop God’s plan for salvation but he planned to use this to try to destroy the Jews. Why is this?

If there was a way to destroy the Jewish people then God can not fulfill His promises to Abraham. The Abrahamic covenant is literal, eternal and unconditional. God made eternal promises to Israel. He has promised them (the believing remnant) a place in the Millennial Kingdom and in Eternity. Therefore, end times events depend on the regathering of Israel to the land, and a large number of the people saved. So many in fact that Paul says, “And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:” (Rom 11:26) The Tribulation will be a terrible time, but God will protect Israel and they will come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior. “And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.” (Zech 12:10) They will look upon Jesus Christ at His Second Coming, and know that He is the true Savior and Blessing of Israel. Remember Jesus said, “But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” ( Matt 15:24) So also shall it be at the Second Coming. Christ coming with His church, to save Israel physically and spiritually. Israel will once again come to know the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in a real and personal way through Jesus Christ.

But Satan uses blind hatred in man to try to destroy Israel. For, if all of Israel can be destroyed God’s future plans can not come to pass. We know, of course, that God will prevail, but Satan continues to persecute the Jews. Look back just in recent history. Nazi Germany, untold millions of Jews murdered. The Soviet Union and the terrible persecution there. The homicide bombers in Israel today. Go back further to the Inquisitions, murders of millions of Jews during the Crusades, and the list seems endless.

There is one thing which all of the persecutors, including the homicide bombers will share, the curse. Those nations who persecuted Israel seem to have vanished into history, look at Germany (Hitler's Germany), the Soviet Union, and others gone. Hitler’s thousand year Reich is now just an ugly splotch on the pages of History.

Yet, many people still want to curse Israel for the death of Christ. We really should thank Israel. For, Jesus is the blessing of the Abrahamic Covenant. “And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.” (Gen 22:18) Through the promised line of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, down through Jesse, the father of David, right down to that baby born in a stable, God preserved the line of the Messiah and brought Him into the world to save mankind from their sins.

So many people curse Israel for their rejection of the Messiah, yet the first church was 100 % Jewish. It was the Saved Jews who took the gospel to the lost and dying Gentile nations. Yet, these blessed Gentiles seem uninterested in returning the message of the Gospel back to God’s Chosen People, Israel. So, I challenge you to quit cursing Israel for something she did not do, and in return bless Israel. Bless Israel by giving the Gospel back to them. Support missionaries to the Jews. Pray for the salvation of Israel. Witness to a Jewish friend or neighbor. Speak well of the wonderful things Israel has done for us. Do not fall into the satanic trap of cursing Israel.

Gen 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Amen. Are you not truly happy to have received the blessing of Jesus Christ in your life?
