Minced beef and dumplings
Serves 3
Ingredients
250g /˝Ib minced beef
1 large onion
15g./˝ oz. margarine
1 level tablespoon plain flour
250 m1/ ˝ pt water
Salt, pepper,
beef stock cube
For Dumplings
100g./ 40z. self-raising flour
50g/2oz suet
Pinch of salt
Method
Peel and chop the onion, fry in the margarine in a saucepan for 5 minutes put the mince into the saucepan and stir gently over a low heat until it is brown stir in the flour,
add the water, stock cube, salt, and pepper. Bring to the boil, stirring. Simmer gently with the lid on for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Light the oven, Gas 6,200'C.
Make the dumplings:
mix the flour, suet, and salt, and add enough water to make a firm dough. Divide into about 6 dumplings.
Pour the meat into an ovenproof dish or tin, adding a little gravy browning if necessary. Place the dumplings on top of the mince and bake near the top of the oven for about 20 minutes until the dumplings are golden brown and crisp.
Serve this with freshly cooked vegetables.
