There was a man in history, a fairly wealthy dude
He had a lot of money and he had a lot of food
His cattle roamed the valleys and his sheep they roamed the plain
He owned a lot of graineries and each one was full of grain
The devil didn't like to see this good and faithful guy
With thankfulness and faithful heart, who praised his God on high
So satan took away his goods, his children and his wife
Then God told satan, "that's enough", you cannot take his life
Then God restored to Job his goods, twice what he's had before
His sheep and cattle, food and grain, His blessings He did pour
It proves to you that in these times, when everything seems lost
It pays to serve and honor God, no matter what the cost
And in another time and place, old Jonah did exist
God called him out, to send him forth, his service to enlist
To Nineveh, I send you now, go forth and make it known
That forty days from now they'll see, their city overthrown
But Jonah tried to hide from God, departing on a cruise
That kind of work is not for me, find someone else to use
The ship was caught in heavy seas, a storm sent by the Lord
The captain and the sailors threw poor Jonah overboard
Then came a whale and swallowed him, and in the whale he stayed
And so three days and nights went by, while poor old Jonah prayed
The whale swam close up to the land, and there regurgitated
And Jonah ran to Nineveh, he never stopped and waited
We seek direction from our God, to guide us day by day
We know it is imperative, that Him we do obey
When we complete our earthly course, and stand before the Lord
Obedience and faith will surely bring us great reward
