Game Cube Game Demos

With the unveiling of the Game Cube, Shigeru Miyamoto demonstrated a few videos, focusing on the powers of the console. The following are footages of the Cube's powers, check it out.

Mario Frenzy

As you can see, there are many replicas of Mario. This was a part of the experiment Shigeru Miyamoto and the rest of his crew ran. Nintendo of America explains what happens over the clip -

"With the help of one of his staff members, Mr. Futoda, Mr. Miyamoto ran through a very humorous demonstration of the capabilities of the Nintendo GAMECUBE. Within short order he had displayed 128 Marios on the screen, each made up of about 700 polygons (the same model was used in Super Mario 64) running at 60 frames per second. Each Mario ran around on a circular platform, interacting with other Marios and 128 cubes strewn about on the landscape. Throughout the demonstration a green bar at the bottom of the screen monitored the processing time. If that green bar reached all the way to the right side of the screen, the demo would be running at 30 frames per second, the same rate as Super Mario 64. During the entire demo, including the later parts where Mr. Miyamoto warped the flat platform to complicate the demo's real-time physics and collision detection, and applied many special effects to the polygons, the green bar didn't even go halfway across the screen."

Luigi's Mansion

Could it be Nintendo's finally giving Luigi the opportunity to star in his own adventures like his brother, Mario? Although the screen shots above are only tech demos, demonstrating the powers of the Game Cube, it's a slight possibility.

The clip displayed Luigi inside a haunted mansion, trying to avoid ghostly figures. In his continuous attempts to escape, we saw Luigi sliding down banisters and falling a story, face first. There were no slow-downs, only visual beauty.

According to IGN's predictions, there's a great chance Luigi's Mansion will be one of the launch titles for the Cube. Let's hope those predictions are right.

Meowth's Party

It's no surprise Pokemon is everywhere. You just have to admit it's an enormously popular franchise. And because of that reason, Nintendo decided to please young audience with a short segment of 3D Pokemon animation. Here's what Nintendo of America had to say -

"Meowth's Party" is a short computer graphics animated segment that plays at the end of the Pokemon cartoon. The version that Mr. Miyamoto demonstrated during his presentation was actually created using the detailed models from Pokemon Stadium, and was running on the Nintendo GAMECUBE hardware. Some 40 different Pokemon were present in the crowd scene and it was possible to move the camera angle around in real-time."

Metroid Cube
Our long lost heroine, Samus has returned. Thanks to Nintendo's second-part developer, Retro Studios, we will once again experience Metroid in over 5 years. The series was last scene on the classic 16 bit SNES. Unfortunate for Samus fans, Metroid didn't surface another platform again... until now that is. We here at GP, are celebrating for the joy Game Cube is bound to bring over its October 2000 U.S. launch. Come back next time for updates regarding Zelda Cube, Metroid Cube, and lots more.
