GENERAL

All of the DIVX(s) files will be copied onto a CD/DVD as a data disc as I don't have any computer programmes to make DVDs from DIVX/AVI sources, however as optional I do have a programme called "CyberLink Power2Go" where I can make DVDs from DIVX/AVI files but has drawbacks:

• Records up to 3hrs
• Makes widescreen films turn onto pan & scan (fullscreen)
• Certain DVD players may NOT able to see main menu (plays fine with Playsation 2 console and DVD-ROM drives) with not easy navigation
• PCM Sound

DivX is a brand name of products created by DivX, Inc. (formerly DivXNetworks, Inc.), including the DivX Codec which has become popular due to its ability to compress lengthy video segments into small sizes while maintaining relatively high visual quality. The DivX codec uses lossy MPEG-4 Part 2 compression, also known as MPEG-4 ASP, where quality is balanced against file size for utility. It is one of several codecs commonly associated with ripping, where audio and video multimedia are transferred to a hard disk and transcoded. As a result, DivX has been a center of controversy because of its use in the replication and distribution of copyrighted DVDs.

If you compare DivX movies to DVDs they're able to offer the same image quality at one-tenth (1/10) the size, which makes them perfectly suited for movie downloads where the bandwidth available usually is limited. This means that you can easily fit a full movie on a single CD, while still maintaining the original image quality of the DVD. The video is usually combined with AC3 or MP3 audio to provide both high quality audio and video. All of these things have contributed to the popularity of the format among those that download movies and videos online.
