Comments The most (in) famous anime of all times! One of the first to introduce maturte themes to a medium intended for kids, back on the 1970's. Despite the content the series was famous enough to generate TWO sequels: Science Ninja Team Gatchaman II and Science Ninja Team gatchaman Fighter. But this title became famous because of their dubbed versions. The first series "Transmutated" into Battle of the Planets, a 1980's North American version made by Sandy Frank Syndication. They edited most of the mature situations (nobody died) in order to market it to an audience that still believed cartoons was intended for kids ONLY. Despite the cuts it was still "to-hot-to-handle" by some concerned parents.
On the late 1980's/early 1990's gatchaman was re-edited and re-written,
"Transmutating" once more. This time into G-Force, which was closer in
content (read: people actually died!) to the original! The other tow series was edited and combined into one by another US company (Saban productions). The resulting "Transmutation"was known as Eagle Riders, which was aired for a short time in the US. Sadly none of the original series have been released in the US UNCUT for reasons unknown (which is a shame because that leave the fans no option of seeing the original versions). The closer thing was the 1990's remake OVA of Gatchaman, which is good, but still not enough. The original series is available on DVD, but they were coded so only Japanese DVD players could play it :-(
