Description
Alien invaders (Deathculans) try to conquer the human's solar system in order to save space for their own race to live on. The human's only chance is the ultimate weapon: Bismark, a giant space ship which can transform into a giant sheriff-shaped robot.
The "Bismark Team" was formed during the second Deathculan attack by the professor Ruwell in order to fight the Deathculans with Bismark, the most powerfull arm of the Earth Federation Government. The members were choosen for their personal particular different abilities and every one have his role and his function. Shinji Hikari was choose as team leader for it by Ruwell himself. The Bismark Team have sometimes the function of ambassador too. They have in dotation futuristic protective suits, and personal veicles or mechanical horses. The Bismark Team was disgregate only a time by the Earth Federation Government during the tractative for the peace with the Deathculans and reformed when the peace was broken.
(American version info: The "Ramrod Team" is commonly called "Star Sheriffs Team" cause is formed by a special group of Star Sheriffs and wasn't all formed by the Cavalry Command in fact only Saber Rider and April were select for to be part of it. During an Outrider attack they met Fireball and Colt and after they saw their abilities they were add to the Star Sheriffs. Saber Rider, as most expert in the group, was already choose for to be the team leader. The "Ramrod Team" have all the duties of the other Star Sheriffs in addition to the role to pilot Ramrod and is often choosen for the most difficult missions or used as ambassator.)

Notes
This anime merge space-age and (American) Old-West themes, making it original to certain point. Despite lack of popularity in Japan (no re-run was made), the show was exported and was shown in the USA as Saber Rider. I'm not sure about this but I would not be surprised some parts with "questionable" content and certein elements (like death) were edited on the American version. After all, WEP is the same company that turned Dairugger XV and Go Lion into Voltron! Anyway, the show was still good enough and I highly recomend it. The only thing I regret is that on neither of the two versions the robot was used regurally :-(.
