Richard Franklin Heady was born on 12-25-1831 in Switzerland County, Indiana to Thomas S. Heady and Sarah Barnett Johnson. His father died when he was young, and his mother married Conrad Lepper in Switzerland County, Indiana. His family traveled to Davis County, Iowa.
On Sept. 25, 1856 he married Emeline Adelia Place, daughter of Joseph and Mary Jane Place. They made their home in Davis County, Iowa and raised five children.
Emeline Adelia Place Heady died on April 8, 1904 in Davis County, Iowa. Richard Heady died on May 21, 1905 in Davis County, Iowa. Both are buried in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Floris, Davis County, Iowa.

Theresa C. Heady, born Jan. 20, 1871 and died Dec. 26, 1907.
