The American Committee on Africa (ACOA) is devoted to supporting African people in
their struggle for freedom, independence, and economic justice. ACOA organizes programs
and projects to inform and mobilize Americans in support of these aims. It organizes
campaigns on key policy issues and assists an extensive US network to lobby on such
issues. The Africa Fund (AF) is an educational humanitarian organization associated with
ACOA. AF research publications and public education projects provide critical information,
particularly on southern African and Nigeria and The US ACOA and AF have complementary
programs, sharing, office and staff.
Mentors; self-designed research projects; receptions; lectures; meetings with the
diplomats and African and US political leaders; research; staff meetings.
Past projects include: an analysis of new labor laws in South Africa, which was
published by the United Nations; the design of a campaign poster, which was reproduced in
a book of political posters; the coordination of a national Anti-Apartheid Conference,
which President Nelson Mendela attended; the compilation of a data fact sheet; which
reviewed human rights and social issues in post-1990 South Africa.
