Despite our modest number of alumnae in Turkey we have accomplished several Projects with dedication and enthusiasm.
We first started by purchasing 50 saplings in a virgin forest in the Sarnic area just outside Izmir. The roster in the entrance to the forest bears the following inscription "These 50 saplings were donated by the alumnae of Mount Holyoke College".
Believing in the validity of public service, our alumnae next ventured to aid the visually impaired. In a joint Project with the National Library in Ankara, law books were recorded for the benefit of the blind. These cassettes have been placed in the recordings section and again have been marked "Recorded by Mount Holyoke College Alumna......".
Turning to Mount Holyoke, our Turkish alumnae wanted to enrich the cultural sources available on campus and to familiarize the students, faculty and visitors with Turkish culture. It is for this reason that a small collection of Turkish music compact discs has been given to the Chair of the Music Department at Mount Holyoke. Pratt Music Hall is undergoing renovations, and once renewed the Music Library intends to introduce this genre of music by placing them in display cabinets.
Next was the donation of books on Turkish literature and culture to the Mount Holyoke College Library and American Collegiate Institute in Izmir
