ROAD TRIPPING ...

WHAT IS ROAD TRIPPING?

One of the neatest ways to see the country is to just get into your vehicle and go tour the country! That is Road Tripping! It is the "TRIP" not the destination that is the highlight of it all!

WHAT TO TAKE WHEN ROAD TRIPPING?

You need a reliable vehicle. Carry a tool box for minor repairs along the road. A spare tire is a must. A tire pressure guage to keep the tires evenly inflated. Extra fluids,.. engine oil, transmission fluid, antifreeze, brake fluid. Booster cables and a tow rope can come in handy as well. A flashlight with spare batteries. A cooler with drinks and sandwich fixin's. (Fruits can keep for a long time) Tin goods. Toilet paper (for emergencies and it can also be used as napkins!) A compass, matches, tent, hatchet, sleeping bag, pillow, blanket, knife, bear spray, radar dectector, altimeter, and candles.

HOW LONG TO ROAD TRIP FOR?

Roadtrips may last for a day, weekend or continue on for a few weeks or even on more of a permanent basis depending on your cash flow. The choice all depends on one's own lifestyle.

WHERE DOES ONE STAY OVERNIGHT?

1. At a Relative's house
2. At a Friend's Place
3. Campgrounds (tenting)
4. Motels
5. Sleep in Your Vehicle (rest areas, side streets, off road spots)

ROAD TRIPPING WITH OTHERS!

One question seems to pop up quite frequently... Do you do this solo or with a partner? They all have advantages and disadvantages! It is nice to travel solo and enjoy the peace and quiet, but it can be a lonely trip. It is nice tohave someone travel with you whether they have their own vehicle or they share the trip in one vehicle with you. It is nice to share the experience with someone. You can also fill up the car with others for a trip! The nice part about having more that one vehicle is if one vehicle happens to breakdown. I think my ideal is to have at least one travelling partner with their own vehicle and communicate via a CB radio as we travel. That way, we both would have our own space and yet share the adventure together.

ROAD TRIPPING TIPS!

I like to freeze a plastic milk jug of water for my cooler which lasts up to five days on the road. I have used it also by itself, but it lasts pretty much a day which is okay for those day trips.
Also I have used juice boxes that I froze and could thaw one out during the day to get a cold drink when needed.
I tend to make sub sandwiches a lot and stop for a fast food hot meat for the supper meal. I supply my own drinks to save $$$.
Make sure that you take time to stop every few hours of driving. There is always some small town to explore out there! Don't rush!
Beware of animals such as cows on or near the road. They are very unpredictable and very stupid animals and can cause a lot of damage to your vehicle.
