DESCENDANTS OF CONVICTS GROUP Inc  What is this group? "In early 1981, some members of the Genealogical Society of Victoria felt that as there was an increasing interest in convicts and the convict system of Australia, the formation of a group dedicated to the promotion of this interest would be beneficial.
On 2 May of that year, about 30 members met and it was agreed to form a group for those who could claim a convict forebear who had been transported to an Australian colony, in penalty of crime, between 1788 and 1868, or for those who had a special interest in convicts."

GENCIRCLES I have found GenCircles a wonderful facility...I uploaded my gedcom, GenCircles automatically removed the details of living relatives, then matched my gedcom details with those of other families which had been uploaded. Then I was able to see the names and email addresses of other potential relatives and contact them if I so desired. It makes researching so easy....

IMMIGRATION INDEXES  Public Record Office of Victoria staff have been working for many years with an ever increasing number of volunteers to index the lists of passengers who arrived in Victorian ports between 1839 and 1923. So far they have released an index on microfiche and on the PROV web site, in five instalments. The index at present covers:
A.Unassisted passengers arriving in Victoria on ships which embarked from Foreign Ports (that is; not Australian, New Zealand or United Kingdom ports) for the years 1852-1879.
