Jim Rome: Welcome today everyone to the Last Word and do I have a show lined up for you today. But first, I'd like to cover the egos in sports today. I mean come on, these egos today are enough to blow the roof off a building. There enough to ruin sports teams, bring down wrestling federations. I have seen it tear apart even the tightest of friendships. Jim hears the applause of the crowd as they agree with him. Jim, in a sense was very right about what he had said. Jim Rome: And that brings me to my topic of discussion today. How much of an impact has wrestling had on society today? And, are the egos in professional wrestling today, reaching the same heights felt in professional basketball and the other major sports? The crowd continues to cheer Jim. Jim Rome: To help me understand the world of professional wrestling and argue there points, I have two men from the opposite sides of this argument. First, a proud member of the LwL and devotee to cleaning up wrestling, live from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, John Karman is here tonight. The crowd has a very mixed feeling to Karman as he recieves some cheers and some boos. Jim Rome: Hi John. John Karman: Hi Jim. Jim: Also here tonight, I have current standout in Xtreme Wrestling Federation and wrestling enthusiast, live from GulfPort, Mississippi, Epic, better known to most as Twisted Clown. Epic recieves a mixed reaction also from the bi-partisan crowd, but he hears mostly cheering as opposed to the many boos John Karman heard. Jim: Hi Epic. Epic: Hey Jim. Jim: Alright gentlemen. You heard me tell the crowd here tonight what tonights topic is tonight and want your arguments on why you believe the way you do. Both men knod there heads, ready to go. Jim: First tonight, let's start with the egos that appear to be running rampant in professional wrestling today. Now, I know I've seen some of the worst attitudes in wrestling here lately. From guys spitting on there bosses to others refusing to work until things went there way. I don't understand how this can be about the fans, if that is how the workers really feel. John: That right there is the problem in professional wrestling today. Most of those guys today work there way up to the top and once they get there, they think they can sit back and relax, sorta get lazy on the wrestling fans. Epic: Oh, that is such crap. Wrestling is fifty-fifty. You have your guys that do in fact get lazy and rest on there laurels, but and this is a bit but, not all of us sit back and get lazy on our fans as you say. John: Is that so? Then how come guys like Hulk Hogan are still around? It is a widely known fact that he is one of the laziest guys in professional wrestling today. Epic: As that may be so, he definately is not apart of XWF Wrestling. That, might I add, IS where the big boys play. They don't stand for some whiny babies there that only want to wrestle when they want to. You wrestle when your scheduled or you'll get fired. Jim: Fired? Isn't that a bit harsh for just being lazy? Or, is this a common occurence? Epic: Of course it's not at all harsh in professional wrestling. Professional wrestling is a barberic sport as it is. So to have such harsh guidelines would only fit in well within there perimeters. Epic: Man, Jim, I really ain't trying to be out of line, but this guy has an obvious bias against our sport. Those guidelines are set forth so that only the strong survive. Unlike with the WWF, in XWF, you have to earn you way to the top by working hard, rather than trying to close down everyone that you don't see eye to eye with like the WWF does. Jim: That is a rather valid point for another discussion. But, the topic of today is egos, and in wrestling, are egos ruining this ever evolving popular sport? John: Most definately. Epic talks about only the strong surviving, but whose gonna be at the top when none of them left. Wrestling won't last. Jim: Wrestling won't last? Epic: Please! Wrestling is a sport that has been around since the Romans and Greeks. What makes you think that wrestling won't last any longer? It's lasted through everything. It's the oldest sport in this world and you're saying it won't last? That's ludicrous. John: What's ludicrous is the fact that the sport itself is about knocking your opponent out long enough to get a three count. It's a televised form of a street fight with a few fancy moves. Epic: A few fancy moves? My a**. If you could even do one of my signature moves I'd be impressed. Those moves took me days and days on end to learn and you think they're a few fancy moves? It just goes to show you the lack of knowledge the XWF has on professional wrestling. John: We........ Jim: I'm sorry to cut you off John, but I must cut to a commercial and then we'll be right back with John Karman of the LwL and Epic from the Xtreme wrestling federation. With Jim Rome's words, the scene fades to a commercial for Jeremy's fellow Dream Team friend, Legend Inc...... When you are the best, there is no second place Being the best, means proving it Everyone thinks they are the best, but only one can be Are you ready to be proven wrong?..... I thought so He is your Hero, He is the Dream, He is the Savior Too late.......... He's Here.......... He fears no man, He is a Champion, He will not back down He is in word, LAME He is the man, the warrior, the best INC.......... {Press Enter}......... LEGEND INC. Get over it! Isn't he great? Legend Inc.: A Legend For Life As Legend Inc.'s commercial faded out, the scene shifted back to the set of the Last Word with Jim Rome. Jim lifted his head up and the discussion continued on. Jim: Alright, I'm back with John Karman of the LWL and Epic of XWF and tonight, we're covering the egos in professional wrestling and the impact it's having on society. John, you said as we were going to a commercial that a sport that almost predates most others is in fact ludicrous? John: I do think the whole sport is ludicrous. Fans pay hard earned money for this little bit of satisfaction they can get out of seeing grown men beat each other up. I see no point in that at all. Epic: You don't see any point in it, because you fail to realize that these fans also get enjoyment out of it and that is why they pay there hard earned money to watch me and my co-workers in the wrestling business wrestle each and every night. We 'beat up each other' because we like to. It's our job. Jim: I agree with Epic on the fact that it is up to the fans to decide where they want to spend there hard earned money at and if wrestling is it, then so be it. But, what about the risk factor you guys have each and every night you go out there? Do injuries worry you guys at all? Epic: Why should they? In any sport today, injuries are very prevalent. But, we can't exactly stop a show that some fan has paid for to see. No, we don't get to go back to the locker room and come out the next night. We finish our match, then get taken care of. Most of us even wrestle injured. We don't cop out on our fans like most of those whiners in the NBA do. It's not our style. John: So now you are going to push the buck onto the NBA and blame them? Epic: No, you moron, if you'd listen. I am saying, we don't get to take time off because our little arm hurts, or our leg is a little stiff. No, we go out there each and every night for the fans. John: So what you are telling me, is that you guys put yourselves in danger just to please some fans? Isn't that a bit stupid on your part, to place your health on the line for the entertainment of someone else? Epic: You obviously really don't get it. We enjoy what we do. Wrestling for some is a way of life. I love it. I can't think of anything I'd much rather do, then wrestle. Jim: I think we have the consensus thought on this. A look at our polls show that sixty eight percent of men in todays world do watch professional wrestling of some form. Of that sixty eight percent, only twenty seven percent of those men think that wrestling is not for them. Now why they still watch it is beyond me, but wrestling is becoming more and more popular as the time passes. When we come back from our commercial break, we'll find out just exactly what the impact wrestling is having on today's society and more importantly, its impact on today's youth. The scene fades out to a commercial for XWF's upcoming Pay Per View, Hell On Earth 2001. XWF Hell On Earth, Live and Only On Pay Per View. Call your local cable company or satellite provider and order TODAY!! Then, a commercial for Fedwars upcoming interpromotional Pay Per View aired. XWF - Is it enough to just win the ratings? No, we must demolish the competition in the ring, as well. FedWars Revelation brings you some hot crosspromotional matchups. Catch it live on FedWars ppv! As the commercials come to an end, the scene goes back to the set of the Last Word. Jim was ready to go, and so were his guests. Jim: We're back today with my guests, John Karman of the LWL and Epic, better known as TC, of the XWF. Out topic tonight is the egos that run rampant in professional wrestling and the impact it has had in today's society. Onto the impact on society it has had. I personally think that wrestling has had an equal effect on society. John: That might be so, but it still has had a more negative effect on the more impressionable youth, than the average adult. Epic: Now how do you figure that in that pea sized brain of yours? John: Take a look at all those young kids that see what you guys do night in and night out, and then go home and mimic what they just saw you do on TV. You can't tell me that doesn't have a negative effect on them. Epic: I can so. How can you tell me that it's my fault the kid is not being properly watched by his parents. We all have limits as to what we can do. But,if the parent is not going to do there jobs, then what are we supposed to do? John: You of all people could tone down your image. We've all seen the heinous acts you've pulled on TV. You saying everything on there is suitable for children? Even your language is rated R. Epic: You might be right about that, but I run a warning on my promos and if the children aren't being monitored then there is a definate breakdown in that childs home. How can I help that? I'm not sure, I'm just a wrestler. I'm an entertainer. I do what I do, because this is what I am. Jim: And I can agree with that Jeremy, but do you feel at all responsible? Epic: Of course I do, I feel responsible when a little kid hasn't been taught the difference from the fact that I do this for a living, and I enjoy what I do to its alright to go out and hurt Johnny, or Davie or whoever down the block. I urge parents to teach the kids the difference. But, if the parents don't, we can't be held liable. John: So once again you are going to pass the buck toward the parents? Epic: If that isn't calling the kettle black John. You people in the XWF say you are watchdogs for lude and crude television shows, but you know what I've seen so far? John: What could that possibly be? Epic: I've seen you guys only attack wrestling federations, causing them to lose there sponsors over ridiculous B.S. just to justify yourselves. I find it sad that groups like your XWF run around trying to tell everyone what they should be watching and what they shouldn't. I find that to be really sad. John: So you are telling me that it is Ok for you to go on television tomorrow and whack someone with a chair? Then put them in a gratuitously violent move that could paralyze them. You call that entertainment? I say its just another way to corrupt out already fragile society. Jim: I don't know about that. Professional wrestling may not be my first pick to watch on the television, but I wouldn't call it the potential downfall of our society. John: But it could be, eventually. Epic: Please, the only way wrestling will be the downfall of society is if the world ends on your stupid little remarks. That's like saying that musical artists are the blame for these teenagers shooting up schools. That's wild. Wrestling is entertainment. Plain and simple. If it can't be taken as that, then the moron operating the remote control needs to switch channels because his scope of reality is severly damaged. That is all I have to say about that. Jim: Thanks guys for a rather entertaining argument here tonight and we get back from our commercial, we'll have the last word from you both as well as myself. Just then, the scene went to a commercial for the up and coming, number one contender to the Universal title, Epic...... And you thought it was over You thought he was done THE Epic ONE COMETH And he's coming for you XWF When Epic's commercial fades off the air, the scene goes back to the Last Word with Jim Rome. Jim: Lastly tonight, I'd like to get the last word from my guests tonight, John Karman of the LWL and Epic of XWF fame. Epic? John: It's simple. I, along with my friends back in the LWL think that wrestling is becoming too big for its own good and therefore it is now becoming a burden on society. We have little kids hurting little kids because they continuously try to emulate there heros in the ring. When are parents going to realize that wrestling is not suitable for there children to watch. As far as egos go, I think wrestling speaks for itself. It's an ego-driven, over testosterone filled, accident waiting to happen and the LWL and myself will not stand to tolerate it. Jim: Thanks John for those very colorful comments. Epic? Your thoughts. Epic: Well anything I think has got to be better than that pea brain. Wrestling for one, is not an ego-driven, over testosterone filled accident waiting to happen. You fail to separate the good from the bad. Yes, there have been a few that have an ever building ego. But not all of us live off of it. We are entertainers and that is what we do. If parents do not want there kids to watch wrestling, change the freakin' channel. It's that simple. Jim: Thanks guys. Now I believe that in the world of professional wrestling, there are different types of wrestlers. As, there are the lazy overpaid wrestlers, but that is not all there is. I know for a fact that Epic is one of the hardest working wrestlers in world. Does ego helped to ruin a federation. Most likely, but we'll never be able to get rid of all the egos in professional wrestling, so it is something we'll all have to deal with. Now, about the impact wrestling has had on society. Wrestling has become more and more popular with the years that pass by. The question then lies with the parents. Do they monitor what there children watch? If yes, is wrestling suitable for them? These are questions that parents need to answer as wrestling is going to have a major impact on there lives these days. The scene fades out with Jim Rome's Last Word. |
