Evaluation Criteria

  • Purpose
    • Aim and objective stated
    • Intended audience identified
    • Determine level in which the page is pitched
    • Satisfy needs of intended users

  • Coverage
    • Subject areas
    • Materials covered
    • Breadth and depth of the coverage
    • Time limitation
    • Links to other sources
    • Includes:
      • subject areas
      • types of material covered
      • comprehensiveness
    • Retrospective coverage
    • Time- limit to a certain time period
    • Links to other sources; Hyperlinks to other sites

    E.g. British Library
    Sites such as BL has pointers to further information that include other sites or references to printed materials which can enhance the coverage of a source.
    Some sites include descriptive information about each link, which adds value to them and enable users to select other potential sites more easily. You should also consider the basis of selection, e.g. relevance, quality, etc.
