As an instructor for the American Red Cross you are a representative of everything that the Red Cross stands for!  In order for our instructors to keep up to date with certain changes in the Red Cross health and safety curriculum, we will be posting articles and links vital to our instructors on this page.  Below are several links to pages to assist our instructors in keeping their records up to date and in keeping up to date with significant changes in the courses we offer.  For more in depth updates you may also visit www.redcross.org

Want to teach Health and Safety Classes for the American Red Cross?

Are you certified in CPR or first aid?  Would you like to become a volunteer for the American Red Cross?  A great way to get involved with the South Central Mississippi Chapter is to become one of our Health and Safety instructors!  We never have enough instructors to go around and offer the instructor training cours several times throughout the year.  If you would like more information on becoming an instructor or would like to have your name added to the list, please e-mail Patti Fosbinder, Director of Health and Safety Services, or call 601-582-8151.

Forms Available Online:

• Helpful tidbits on the national Web. For your edification (big word, huh!) there is an instructor section on the national website at www.redcross.org under Health and Safety titled “Instructor’s Corner”. They always have good information on the various teaching areas, corrections to text or changes on tests, and copies of forms! (see links below) Yes, you can pull up course record/addendum forms on the web, fill them out, print them out and mail, fax or e-mail them in looking very pretty. Be sure to keep a copy for your files, a copy for your company if you’re an Authorized Provider, and two copies for us (one for the yearly records and one for your personal file.) If you have difficulty finding this area, please call Patti and she’ll walk you through it.
• Course Record 
• Course Record Addendum   When you have the class participants complete their information, please ask that they include their middle initials. We have numerous people in the computer system with the same first and last name and the middle initial would be extremely helpful in tracking training and creating duplicate cards as needed and in being sure the correct person receives credit for recertifications, etc. Thank you for this data input help.
• Directions for completing the Course Record and Course Record Addendum
• Lifeguard Training Activity Log  This is recommended for Lifeguarding Classes.  You may find this form a bit easier to complete over the Course Record and Addendum, as it may be substituted for those forms.
• Course Codes
• Course and Component Codes.  If perchance you’ve misplaced the one you were given in training or were sent in the mail, there is a current list of course codes on the web in the Instructor’s Corner as well. Please, V I P, be sure to double-check your course number and see that it relates exactly to what it is you are teaching. (i.e. there are separate codes for Adult CPR and Adult CPR with AED) If you ever have a question, please call or check with Patti before you leave your paperwork.

Teaching Independent Classes?

If you are teaching classes that are not sponsored by the Red Cross at your place of employment or otherwise, you MUST have an authorized provider agreement with the American Red Cross.  If you would like more information about entering into an authorized provider agreement please e-mail Patti Fosbinder or call 601-582-8151.  Any instructors teaching classes sponsored by the chapter does not need to enter into an authorized provider agreement. 

Pet First Aid and CPR Classes!

Calling all instructors!  We need qualified instructors to teach our pet first aid and CPR classes!  Help prepare our fellow pet lovers to be prepared for all those pet emergencies!  If you are interested in teaching our pet first aid and CPR classes, please e-mail Patti Fosbinder or call 601-582-8151.

Ten Days In -- Ten Days Out

Your signed instructor agreement says that to the best of your ability you will turn in class information within10 days of teaching the class; the Red Cross in turn has 10 days to process the paperwork and get your cards ready for you. Please make your better than best efforts to comply with this deadline. We must make monthly reports to our national headquarters and to our Board of Directors--and accurate numbers for classes, instructors, and participants are very important to us all. (As well as getting the certificates to the participants in a timely manner!) Thanks for your help with this.
