A magnicent city that was once the imperial capital was built as a monument whose time has since passed. Peter the Great built his city on the Gulf of Finland nearly three centuries ago. Seeing the huge gulf with its large, crystal like squares, it is not easily understood the time of the grandeur that once was in St. Petersburg. The city represents more of Russia's past historical than does any other place in Russia, even the Kremlin in Moscow. Located in St. Petersburg is Peter's historic cottage along with icy city canals. The Winter Palace is a wonderful place to visit here with a rich history to go along with it.
