Over the 10 years Sonic has been changed and revamped many times. Along with that, the rights to Sonic have been distributed to many different companies for merchandise reasons. Here are just afew prime examples for you to see and compare.

The TV show entittled simply "Sonic the Hedgehog" was on Saturday morning at 7 o'clock on ABC. It had only 26 episodes but showed Sonic's quality of over confiedence and an enflatted ego quite well.

This picture, artist unknown, captures Sonic's fighting side rather well. It also shows again the various styles of drawing for the blue hedgehog. One thing that you'll notice amongst the pictures here are the different shades of blue used.

This is an official picture done for Sonic. In Sega officials you get the idea that this is the correct way Sonic should be pictures. Of coarse, with his appearance changing all the time, it's rather hard to every be 100% correct. One thing you should notice in the picture are the buckels on his shoes. This is varying thing with Sega art. Sonic's generally excepted shoe style is red with a white stripe. In Sonic CD however buckels somehow appeared on them and it was on and off from there.

Now, this picture of Sonic came from a short lived young-readers series. To our knowledge there were only two book; "Secret Admirer" and "Sonic's shoes Blues". This series, like Saturday AM series and other older day Sonic pictures had Sonic with only one line of spikes down his back. This concept varies all over the place but it was corrected later by Sega. Sonic has three sets of spikes.

Sega re-did Sonic head to sneaker for their platform game "Sonic Adventure", released September 9, 1999. Changing his eye color from brown to green, lengthing his quills, and adding a psycotic smile, Sonic took on a more ghetto appearance. While many disliked the new look, they would have to deal.

This is a picture from the opening of the video game "Sonic Shuffle" which was released on November 7, 2000. Sonic's look is right out of "Sonic Adventure" although the game play puts 2d characters in a 3d world. It's obviously just looking back now how much this hedgehog has changed.

Now here we have the current product that is Sonic the Hedgehog. In "Sonic Adventure 2" released June 19-23, 2001 Sonic made his latest, greatest appearance. Sega slightly revamped the hedgehog from his SA1 look. Although still with a skater/rapper style, Sonic's look was a little more.... "manageble". Official art looked the same but game play was different. There is an obvious boost in Sonic's height in SA2, about damn time, along with fixing his quills. Sonic's age is between 16 and 18 in this game but in previous games it was hard to tell. Sonic's height has now finally caught up with his age.

As all the above pictures show, Sonic has been re-drawn, re-vamped, re-colored, and re-whatever else through out his ten year rein over the video game, comic, and media world. So what wlse is instore for Sonic's appearance in the future? We'll have to see.
