Just Outside of Jackson

Guess I deserve to be alone
so this blacktop's a perfect fit
But given choice of her or road
I’d never have chosen this
I pull off on the shoulder
Rest beside a highway sign
Ten miles till I reach Boulder
but I'm just outside of Jackson in my mind

Seemed like we had made it that time
We swore that we could make it last
But like this faded white line
all our brighter days have passed
In a bar outside of Denver
I shoot tequila with no lime
Try hard not to remember
I'm just outside of Jackson in my mind

Where the sun lit up her golden hair
and her skin shone in the August air
We lived and loved without a care
I wish I could go back there

But not a soul there misses me
so I’m headed up Seattle way
to drown my pain and misery
in that cold Pacific rain
I won’t forget sweet Madison
I wish we’d never had to part
No matter where my feet may run
I’ll be just outside of Jackson in my heart

Where the sun lit up her golden hair
and her skin shone in the August air
We lived and loved without a care
I wish I could go back there
