The first litter in Holland was born in the '70s, in the kennel v.d. Ircomara. These puppies were out of English lines. This was the start for this well known breeder of English mastiffs that produced litters for almost 25 years. She bred a lot of splendid dogs and bitches. The kennel stopped breeding last year, due to new rules made in the mastiffclub that do no good for the breed. This is a big loss for the breed, but if needed, people can contact her for information and help. Also a very well known breeder was kennel Sanquis nobilis that
still breed these marvelous dogs. Another one was van Desaal that
also stopped breeding. The strongest influence to the breeding in
Holland are Ircomara and Sanquis Nobilis. At this moment we see a lot influence due some imported dogs from America and England. Some do good and some do bad at the moment. Other big issues: According to my knowledge, in a couple of years all the mastiffs in Holland should have this otherwise they get a --- pedigree. If you interested in a puppy don't just take one from the breederlist, but ask more breeders that are not on the breederlist or members from the club but ask for hip-scores, ofa and all the test done. Don't take a puppy wich from the parents are not tested, and don't fool yourself... Some breeders are good talkers and talk you right into a puppy. I, for instance, am not a member of the club anymore, (several members have left the club), and a lot of breeders that are still members want to give up their membership. We're very careful in breeding mastiffs and give contracts according to the dutch law. We also give a garanty on health, and just that is more than what other breeders do. We are a members of the Swedisch club, which I personaly find to be one of the most honest clubs in Europe according to breeding and health.
