Become a Human Rights Activist!

In today's world the protection of the human rights of all people is on the forefront of issues throughout the world.  While it seems that there is little that one person can do to protect human rights, the work of individuals around the world have made profound differences in urging foreign governments to protect human rights.  Amnesty International relies on its grassroots support to bring human rights violations to center stage.  As a human rights watchdog group, Amnesty International bases its work on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as passed by the United Nations in 1948.

As a student group of Amnesty International, USA, we take actions to urge not only foreign governments but also the United States Government to provide for the protection of human rights around the world.  Most recently, our group has focused on how the PATRIOT Act violates the human rights of American citizens, the crisis in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Campaign Against Discrimination and other campaigns sponsored by Amnesty International.  As students we make up the largest percentage of human rights activists in the United States.  The work of students in human rights has led to many victories for the protection of human rights at home and around the world.

If you would like to become a member of Amnesty International or would like more information, please visit the Amnesty International, USA website or attend one of our meetings on Thursdays at 12:15 in Liberal Arts Building 106.
