What's wrong with this picture? Mississippi highways numbered above 699 are supposed to be secret. However, some of these roads are signed at highway junctions. (7/00)

A rarity: Mississippi actually signing the directions at a minor intersection. (well, MS5 is a minor route that should be renumbered MS335) However, Mississippi is starting to make amends, putting up directional indicators at intersections on four-lane highways. Another oddity is the fact that MS4 gets the "stop" sign when it's the more important route. (9/00)

In Ripley, MS4 jogs over a block on MS15. (Through travel on MS4 requires over ten turns, even though it's a semi-major highway.) Also of note is the "To 2" sign. Not only is this incorrect (it should say "East 2"), this needs to be sounded out. It sounds confusing, doesn't it? MS2 is not signed in Ripley for some reason. (9/00)

This is how Webster County signs their county roads. (10/28/00)

This is a multiplex in Vicksburg. US61 has a tiny directional banner, the Great River Road marker is there, and US80 is unsigned. (10/28/00)

Clay County, MS signs a "To MS389" between the two sections of MS389. MS389 is a lousy highway that doesn't extend far enough on either end, has two STOP signs with non-state highways, and needs to be a state highway through Clay County as well. (1/6/01)

In Water Valley, MS315 is signed north-south, even tho (with the ridiculous routing it takes thru Water Valley) at one point the sign direction "north" faces directly south. (5/19/01)

This is a more accurate sign, but unfortunately, it's an error. This sign should say SOUTH 315 even tho it faces directly north. I don't see the point of 315's routing thru Water Valley or even the road having an odd number (an even would work much better). (5/19/01)

This is an extreme rarity in Mississippi: a reassurance shield on a "secret" state route. Note the lack of a directional marker. Apparently, these routes are not bound by directional rules. According to Froggie, there are a few other "secret" routes with reassurance markers, not to mention the countless ones I've seen with junction markers. Maybe these should be called "tertiary" routes instead. This is in Corinth. (4/14/00)

This is the south end of MS9W. The intersection is laid out very confusingly, with MS9 and MS9W becoming divided for a short period of time. MS9 southbound gets a stop sign. It is hard to photograph the intersection (or the intersection of MS9W and MS7, which is just as bad). (5/19/01)

MS8 and MS9 are multiplexed in Calhoun City. (5/19/01)

Mississippi now has 4-digit state routes! This was found near Fulton. It's almost like we're turning into another Kentucky! Wait a minute, this IS Kentucky. In fact, this is Fulton, Kentucky. Mississippi does NOT have any four-digit state routes, and probably never will, altho I wouldn't be too surprised to see one someday. (6/18/01)
This is a section of I-55 in southern Carroll County that has been cut down to two lanes divided (with a Jersey barrier, I believe) due to construction on the other two lanes. (12/1/01)
(Survey of BGSes around the country) New York! Chicago! Little Red Schoolhouse! (12/1/01)
This is how a Mississippi scenic route is signed on a BGS. (12/1/01)
