The Official Hostage Taker Rulebook
Hostage Taker! The new game that is taking all vermin camps by storm! It is certainly not a game for the fainthearted or squeamish. The stakes are high, the field is small, and the game can be bloody and violent.
Read on to see the mechanics of this highly dynamic game!
Origins of the Game
The idea for Hostage Taker is credited to Empress Selipa Moondeath of Moondeath Harbor. Please do not play this game at any place other than Moondeath without permission, and do not credit it to anybeast except Selipa. Just send a message to Empress Selipa Moondeath and ask for permission to use Hostage Taker. She will probably give permission to anybeast who asks, provided they are leader of a vermin club.

Rules for Teams
1. A game of Hostage Taker consists of two teams, with five members on each team.
2. Players are not allowed to drop out under any circumstances. The only way out is to win or be killed.
3. There can be no last minute substitutes, and nobeast is to enter the field for any reason while the game is in progress.
4. If a player drops out before the start of the game, the overseer must be informed of a substitute two days before game time. If the change is given later than this, Rule #3 comes into play and the team must begin the game with only four players.
5. Email addresses are required for each player. When a list is turned in for both teams, each player will be emailed regarding the game time.
Rules for Individual Players
1. Players are not allowed to carry any weapons onto the game field. They are, however, allowed to fashion their own weapons from materials they find in the field. Each weapon made must be shown to the overseer for approval before they can be used.
2. Players are not allowed to leave the game field.
3. Players are required to respond to all roll calls by the overseer within fifteen minutes (two days IRL). If they do not show up, they will be considered dead. If they show up late, they will be killed immediately, and will not be allowed to retaliate. (NOTE: If the beast has computer problems (i.e. ITW deletes their messages immediately), they must contact the overseer and tell him/her of this problem as soon as they notice it.)
4. If a player is excused from roll call because of problems with their computer, they will not be allowed to participate in the rest of the game. They will be made a permanent hostage.
Eliminating Players
Players Are Eliminated If...
1. They are killed (obviously).
2. They do not respond to roll call (for any reason).
3. They are found to have illegal weapons in their possession at any time.
4. They attack the overseer. The entire team commiting this offense will be eliminated.
5. They accept help from anybeast not participating in the game.
6. They refuse to leave their name after their message, or are found to be leaving the wrong name. (Mistakes are OK, just catch them immediately. If anybeast replies to your message with the wrong name, the time limit is up and you're gone.)
7. They break any other rule specified as an offense in the rules.
Rules for Overseers
1. Overseers will do roll calls at odd intervals, to check and make sure everybeast is still participating. There must be at least three roll calls per game, but as many as necessary after that.
2. The overseer must not participate in the game apart from his specific tasks.
3. The overseer must not play favorites, no matter what team he actually prefers.
4. The overseer must check and approve every weapon used in the game. The overseer must be aware that the only materials are the types of things you find in forests (like sticks, rocks, vines, etc.).
