Vifezda "Mercy House"

Recently in Ukraine the number of homeless children has significantly risen. The family, which is the basis of normal child development is experiencing crises as a result of the country’s political rebuilding. During only the first six months of the year 2000 alone, 14,621 children were taken into shelters. Most of these children were kicked out of their homes by their parents or are runaways. They are witnesses to conflicts between alcoholic parents, cruel treatment and violence from their parents and/or other adults.

Families are falling apart and the children are suffering. Homelessness, like a deadly virus, is breaking into our homes, and is preparing an alarming future for us all. More than 90 thousand families in Ukraine today are dysfunctional. This type of situation can not leave any normal person indifferent to the facts regardless of his personal or political beliefs. Only when we all come together and combine all of our strengths to help this generation will we achieve success.

“…pour out your hear like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to Him for the lives of your children, who faint from hunger at the head of every street.” Lamentations 2:19

The charitable fund “Vifesda” (translated from the Greek to mean House of Mercy) was organized by the fully evangelical church “Word of Faith” in 1999 as a result of the outreach for homeless children. Our goal is not only to take the children off the streets, feed them, clothe them, free them from chemical addiction, but to also return them to their rehabilitated families. The principles and methods we are using in this ministry are already giving good results. From the time we came into existence, about 500 children have come to us, and out of this number 150 have been rehabilitated and placed back into their families or sent to homes where there is a schooling program. This is in cooperation with a Kiev shelter for minors.

A new project focusing on restoring and strengthening the family has come about in independent rehab centers for minors. It has been tested and proved. This process includes moral and spiritual rehabilitation of the children on the basis of Christian ethics and morality, and if possible psychological and spiritual work with their families.

“Sons are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from Him.” Psalms 127:3
“And He took the children in His arms, put His hands on them and blessed them.” Mark 10:16

If God has laid these children and their families on your heart, and you would like to take part in our service or share advice with us, help in the planning of similar ministries or office supplies, material and/or financial support, we will thank God for your loving heart.

“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:12,13
