Legend of the Peacekeepers By Mark the "Don" Sherstone marks@caverock.net.nz
Aeryn and Crichton walked along the bank of a small river on the surface of PK353, well that was the Peace Keeper name according to Aeryn. She had been on a flag carrier that had passed this little sleepy backwater that didn't even rate a full planetary garrison some years before. They sat down under what looked like a weeping willow tree. "So what's this legend you were telling me about Aeryn?" asked Crichton "It concerns the beginning of the Peace Keepers which was thousands of your years ago." she said as she got settled this would take some time "So the story goes back then this part of the galaxy was made up of lots of independent star systems so as you would expect there were plenty of disagreements over one thing or another." Aeryn stopped for a moment and looked at Crition he seemed interested even when she said it would take the best part of an arn to explain or at lest the bits she knew. Still it was a nice enough day for it. On a hill not too far away two Peace Keepers were watching them with interest. "Is that them sir?" asked the younger of the two "Yes that's them alight." said the old PK has he lowered his binoculars "Orders Sir?" "Bring them to the command bunker. But do it nicely. The last memory of me Aeryn has will NOT be of her being brought to me at gun point. Understand me lieutenant?" "Yes sir!" the Lt turned to leave but he had to ask "Sir how do you know Officer Sun?" "She's my Granddaughter." said the old PK with a smile Crichton and Aeryn were talking about other things like how much this planet reminded Crichton of Earth. They had all day while the others got supplies for Moya and themselves. Just then they were interrupted by three Peace Keepers. They were about to make a run for it when the lieutenant spoke "Officer Sun, Commander Crichton." he had addressed them by their rank! And their weapons were not drawn! What the frell was going on? wondered Aeryn. Only one way to find out. "Yes lieutenant. How may we help you?" she asked. "My commander wishes to speak with you at the command bunker." he said "What about do you know?" Aeryn asked "No ma'am he did not tell me that." the lieutenant paused for a moment not sure weather to continue or not "All he said was that he wants to see his Granddaughter one last time before he dies.." the last part hit Aeryn like a lightning bolt she steadied herself against Crichton. "I don't have any family. they're all dead." she said hoarsely. "No. Only your Grandfather remains. But he is ill and has been for some time." D'Argo and Zhaan looked on from a safe view point. They were too far away to hear and too far away to help. jugeing by Aeryn's reaction she had just had a shock of some sort. "That is odd. They haven't drawn there weapons." said D'argo "You're right. I wonder why?" asked Zhaan As if in answer their com links came to life. "D'Argo, Zhaan. Aeryn and I will catch up with you later something has come up that we have to take care of. And It's got nothing to do with the three PK's ok? See back on Moya Crichton out." they just looked at each other how had he known they were watching? As they walked to the command bunker Aeryn couldn't help but notice all the little things that seem out of place. A group of PK's off duty not just technically but literally that was very rear. The locals and PK's chatting happily together that was unheard of! When they arrived at the command bunker there was a small guard of honour and it was for them! "What the frell is going on here Captain?" asked Aeryn "Ma'am?" replied the captain of the guard though he han an idea of what she was on about "This!" she waved toward the guard of honour "I'm not even a Peackeeper anymore!" "You're more of a peackeeper now than you ever were, Aeryn." said a voice Aeryn and Crichton turned to see an old PK stood in the door way in full dress uniform with that the guard of honour came to attention. D'Argo and Zhaan couldn't believe their eyes. their friends had just entered a PK command bunker with a guard of honour! Something was very odd. "Pilot what do you know about PK353?" asked Zhaan "Not much. It is a little used outpost for the most part forgotten by the peacekeeper high Command. The last listed Garrison Commander is General Sun." "Is he any relation to Aeryn?" asked D'Argo "I do not know. But it is possible." replied Pilot "If he is. it goes some way to explaining things." said Zhaan To be continued.....(I hope!)
