General Lee Restoration Page

On this site you will see a Charger go from this...

to this...

Just to let everyone know from the start, this is not my car nor am I the one restoring it. I am on a Dukes of Hazzard Mailing List and one of the other members named Jim Fair owns and is restoring this 1968 Dodge Charger into a General Lee. I'm just putting this page together for him. One day I hope to build my own General Lee.

This car starts out as a 1968 Dodge Charger that Jim got off of Ebay for $XXXX. He plans on building a General Lee out of it. The car has a nice looking body, but as most MoPars do, it has some rust problems. But for the most part, the body is very nice. After winning the auction, it arrived at his place on August 9, 2000.

Body:

The rear quarter panels were only tack welded into place from the previous owner. They will need to be welded completely then grinded down smooth... then a coat of body filler. If you look closely, you can see that the rear end looks narrow. The rear end will have to be yanked out and a new one will take it's place. The trunk will have to be replaced too. The front vanlance will need to be knocked out a little because it's pushed in some. The windshield isn't held in place..... it will need a new gasket.

Restoration of the Interior
Instalation of a Push Bar
Painting the Body, "01", and the flag
