Our Wedding
|
|
We were committed to a "no stress" wedding. We decided on Monday to get married and by Thursday, we were ready. We'd got our license and hunted up a florist. The nice lady at Shield's Florists in Hazeldell made up a lovely corsage and buttioner of Glads, Jim's favorite flowers, although she hadn't known that when she said, "Just leave it to me. I'll make up something you'll love." | ![]() |

Rev. Barbara Valencia, a friend from church, agreed to do our service, the first she's done, she said, since she moved here from California. We felt honored to be the ones to get her started again. |

I made an exception to our "no guests" decision, and asked my picture-taking buddy, Sally Smith, to come be our photographer and double as one of our witnesses. Pauline, the church receptionist, was our other witness. |

We started our wedding day with an unhurried read of the paper for Jim and a nice long soak in the tub for me. (Sorry, no photos of that!) And, no, we didn't spend the night before the ceremony apart. After seven months together, we just didn't think it made any difference! He was my helper and I his as we prepared for the ceremony. In honor of our Alaska trip, I chose to wear an Alaskan ivory bead necklace and ivory earrings. |

| When we got to the Abundant Life Center offices soon after noon, Rev. Barbara was already waiting for us. But when we looked with a "photo eye" at the cozy library where I'd arranged to have the service, we saw all little round library dots on the books! We quickly rigged up a backdrop to cover the books. Oh, dear, we'd forgotten the flowers! Jim drove back home to get them, knowing he didn't have to rush--no guests, no firm timetable! By the time he returned, Sally had arrived and our "wedding party" was complete. | ![]() |

| We listened carefully as Reverend Barbara talked. (But to tell the truth, I remember very little of it now!) She blessed our rings, then we put them on each other's fingers and, of course, the groom kissed the bride. Then Rev. Barbara presented the happy couple, Mr. and Mrs. James Whitworth. | ||

Then it was on to the work--signing the license and making it legal. Jim did his quickly, standing up. I sat down and took a bit more time. We'll always know just who was at our wedding because everyone there (us, the minister and the two witnesses) signed that license! |

| And then it was time to laugh and play. We went outside where Sally took a few more photos, then went to TGI Friday's for a late lunch. And the next day, to celebrate, we went to the fair. We consider we've already had our honeymoon, you see--a wonderful month long trip to Alaska that ended the week before. | ||
