A word from the desert
An anchorite saw a demon urging another demon to go and awaken a
sleeping monk. And he heard the other one say, "I cannot do this, for
one time when I awakened him he got up and burned me by singing psalms
and praying!"

In the Eastern Orthodox Christian tradition, in continuity with ancient Christian practice, the night is the time of the day dedicated to God. Today in Orthodox monasteries, throughout the world, the services of the Church, the Divine Liturgy, are celebrated at night. Monks, nuns, and dedicated Christians awake when nature is at peace and is renewing itself, to speak and commune with the Living God and Creator of the Universe.

If you my dear friend awake, when all sleep, and but dedicate a few minutes, a half hour, a hour, whatever you are able to praying to God you will feel the wings of your heart spread like that of an eagle’s. Slowly as you cultivate your soul night after night, you will be filled with peace, joy and strength by the Holy Spirit.
As our Lord Himself says in the Holy Gospel:
(Matt 7:7-11)
"The Lord said: Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you. "For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it shall be opened. "Or what man is there among you, when his son shall ask him for a loaf, will give him a stone? "Or if he shall ask for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!"
