mzkmnleroy: ah ha!!!
TrumpetNo6: So what's up with Cavies?
mzkmnleroy: well i STILL won't know until next
month...
mzkmnleroy: but i got placed 11th this time
TrumpetNo6: How about this round?
TrumpetNo6: Heheheh! Yeah!
mzkmnleroy: so far, i'm on 2nd soprano...it's
awesome
TrumpetNo6: Well I've got shitty news myself.
mzkmnleroy: uh oh
mzkmnleroy: what?
TrumpetNo6: Yep.
mzkmnleroy: dorothy?
TrumpetNo6: Dorothy decided not to go see a
movie and that we should just be friends.
TrumpetNo6: Yep.
mzkmnleroy: damn
TrumpetNo6: Well I finally got an answer..jut not
what I wanted.
mzkmnleroy: that totally sucks
TrumpetNo6: But I asked Him for what was best
for Dorothy.
TrumpetNo6: And.....it wasn't me.
TrumpetNo6: So it's better than living in an
alternate reality ultimately ending in a break up
anyways.
mzkmnleroy: i dunno man...maybe He was leaving
it up to her to make a choice
mzkmnleroy: there's always time...and there's
always lions band mmm
TrumpetNo6: Well I didn't ask from Him 'till the
night before she told me.
TrumpetNo6: Either way I'm not gonna' argue.
mzkmnleroy: yeah...well you are great for not being
selfish...you'll always be a step ahead that way
TrumpetNo6: It's His and her decision. I respect
hers and of Course I respect HIS!
mzkmnleroy: yeah...grin and bear it
TrumpetNo6: Yep.
TrumpetNo6: But on a better note..
mzkmnleroy: everything happens for a
reason...maybe not so good so soon...and i often
wonder why the things that happened (you know) to
me happened...but it'll all work out
TrumpetNo6: Mr. Linehan wants me to prepare All
of Arutunian to performance level (totally
awesome...in other words).
mzkmnleroy: cool
TrumpetNo6: And then he'll want me to do Haydn
And Hummel.
mzkmnleroy: so you can play it w/ the symphony
hehe
TrumpetNo6: As well as some other Bb solo
literature.
mzkmnleroy: cool
TrumpetNo6: And he wants me to enter some ITG
stuff if not this school year then next.
mzkmnleroy: man i totally rock on the G bugle...but
on my Bb i don't have jack crap
TrumpetNo6: And he wants me doing lots of stuff
outside of MS.
mzkmnleroy: cool
TrumpetNo6: "Bein' first chair in all the MS things
is nice and important..but you need some stuff
outside of MS"
mzkmnleroy: mm hmm
TrumpetNo6: And THEN he wants my dad to get
me a C trumpet to work on some C trumpet
literature.
mzkmnleroy: hehe
TrumpetNo6: Well the C trumpet will come
soon...probably work on both at the same time.
TrumpetNo6: He said I'm one of the most serious
students he's ever had.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
TrumpetNo6: And that I'm really advanced for a
Junior.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
TrumpetNo6: But I still didn't play my best today.
TrumpetNo6: It was an improvement of Friday.
TrumpetNo6: But Thursday was really good I
thought.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
mzkmnleroy: i have noticed some
improvement...slow improvement...but i could
tongue Fs pretty steadily today
TrumpetNo6: Cool.
TrumpetNo6: I got this bag thing to breath
with...MAN it's amazing.
mzkmnleroy: hehe
TrumpetNo6: Just using it today Realy opened me
up.
mzkmnleroy: cool
TrumpetNo6: Hey man check out this E-Mail from
forever ago.
mzkmnleroy: about all i did was...work on double
tonguing C to F
mzkmnleroy: ...
mzkmnleroy: oops sorry
TrumpetNo6: And C to G. But C to A...I trip up
somewhere around F/G. I can't seem to fix it.
mzkmnleroy: umm...sorry i missed a lot of what
you were saying i guess...knocked off
TrumpetNo6: Ok.
TrumpetNo6: I'll paste it.
mzkmnleroy: k
TrumpetNo6: TrumpetNo6: Just using it today
Realy opened me up.
mzkmnleroy: cool
TrumpetNo6: Hey man check out this E-Mail from
forever ago.
mzkmnleroy: about all i did was...work on double
tonguing C to F
mzkmnleroy: ...
TrumpetNo6: hey man...things have been going
pretty well
sorry i reformatted (had to) and lost
EVERYTHING.....even all 200
something MP3s i had =( .... oh and every good
midi arrangement i
ever had. oh well i'll live....i've got most of it up in
my head anyway
we had a Homecoming followed by contest in TN
the week after Pearl, so my
playing was far from par...but I arranged the trumpet
solo for 3 trumpets
and it was SO awesome...we switched "licks," then i
held a (4th line) D
out, Clint nailed a G above it, then Brian Greer
Nailed a Bb, THEN we all
went to the next chord, (low to hi) Eb, G, C..... I
moved around
though....i didn't JUST hold the D....like i played a
G, then another D,
then the Eb.....and we held it out and looked all cool
for 4 or 5
counts.....hehe at the end of the show, we get on
both knees and EVERYONE
plays a concert F....no Cs, no nothing........and the
coooolest thing
is.......(and we recorded this, so it's proof
enough)...we created a
double high F overtone....it was sooo
awesome....mr milner's like "gah,
that is so cool"....he is also encouraging me to strive
to fill up the
horn (i do....just not all the time cuz i still concentrate
too much on
some things and forget the basics (ends up that the
things i am
concentrating on don't even work without the basics
hehe)) with as much
air as i can get out.....and when i have that mind set,
my range is
better, my sound is better, and my tonguing is
better....so i'm gonna'
hold on to that.
well there's my playing for you....i'm happy with
it....I want to get
better....and i am getting there....we'll see........at all
south
on my personal life...
hehe i had a date with courtney findley last nite. i
figured since i'm
moving, and since i like her that i might as well throw
the
hangs....because i really do like her. she's a sweet
girl. i sometimes
feel guilty because denise likes me (i think...i
hope).......but what's
the point in staying single if there's no chance at all??
doh it's a
mess though.....she (denise) called thursday nite and
was all "i miss you
so much; i want to see you RIGHT NOW." then
she was talking about
coming up to see me friday nite, and we didn't have
a game so she asked
if i had plans; i told her i did, she asked, i told her i
was going to
movies, she wasn't happy .... doh.... i hope she's not
disappointed....
well wish me luck....how's your women life??
i am so pumped about being good at the
trumpet....i've got a long way to
go, but plenty of desire to get there.
long live los tres panchos!
peace,
mark
TrumpetNo6: Yeah I can do C to F.
mzkmnleroy: aww that's so sweet hehe
mzkmnleroy: i miss denise...but i am realistic..i'm
ok without her
TrumpetNo6: Yeah.
mzkmnleroy: dang...i forgot she said that
TrumpetNo6: I figured so when I came across this.
TrumpetNo6: I also thought that may have been
what caused the old Denise to go away.
TrumpetNo6: ..the whole Courtney thing when she
Wanted to see You.
mzkmnleroy: i sure fucking hope not
mzkmnleroy: sorry it took that
mzkmnleroy: it needs all the emphasis it can get
TrumpetNo6: Yeah I know.
TrumpetNo6: Hey man not as bad as my
abso-fucking-lutely
mzkmnleroy: haha
mzkmnleroy: oh man the cavies are so cool
TrumpetNo6: Or..."Mother fuckin' son of a fat ass
bitch"
mzkmnleroy: HAHAHA
mzkmnleroy: lol
mzkmnleroy: the directors cuss all the time...it's
awesome
TrumpetNo6: Ok I may not have used that one
before but I've gotten pretty intense a few times I
know.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
TrumpetNo6: It's not like full of gay guys is it?
TrumpetNo6: I figure if Mr. King can do it then it's
probably not.
mzkmnleroy: one guy said "the great thing about
the cavaliers is, it's all guys...and the best thing about
that is that there aren't any problems...it's
great...see...the pussy just gets in the way!! i'm
serious....i'll be in texas in the heat and this hot chick
will come out in a bikini...and i won't be hearing
anything anyone else will say...the pussy just gets in
the way!"
TrumpetNo6: Hehe.
mzkmnleroy: and jeff feidler (just in case u don't
know...he's the head director) said "fuck" a couple
of times...like..."if you don't e-mail us before you
come to camp and tell us you're flying into
midway...you're fucked"
TrumpetNo6: Hehehe.
mzkmnleroy: haha i had a blast...even if i did play
those stinking bugle for 5 or 6 hours a day and even
if i did dread every moment of playing (simply
because i keep getting too mental)
TrumpetNo6: Are they different to physically play?
mzkmnleroy: but some things that have helped me
are...long tones, lip slurs, and tonguing
scales.....great little exercises
mzkmnleroy: SHOOT YEAH, man...those things
are wretched
TrumpetNo6: Blue Devils use Bach Strad's I
thought...they look just like'em..not like odd keyed
horns.
mzkmnleroy: oh yeah...cavies MAY be on Bbs this
year
mzkmnleroy: they tried out some trumpets...coupla
yamahas and coupla bach strads
TrumpetNo6: So are there some BAD ASSES
there?
mzkmnleroy: the bore size is huge and it's a minor
third low...plus the valves suck haha
mzkmnleroy: yeah there were two major hi note
guys
TrumpetNo6: Sweet.
mzkmnleroy: one played the solo last year and the
other is a vet
TrumpetNo6: Like doule C's?
mzkmnleroy: nah
TrumpetNo6: G's?
mzkmnleroy: yeah...G was the highest
TrumpetNo6: 'Cause the Blue Devils guys are
INSANE.
mzkmnleroy: there were a couple of Gbs , lots of
Fs, and Es, and Ebs....everything up to a G
TrumpetNo6: They won't let you play first
sopranao without a G.
mzkmnleroy: probably not
mzkmnleroy: hehe
mzkmnleroy: but blue devils take it way too
seriously...
TrumpetNo6: That's what Mr. King said.
mzkmnleroy: they are moving in this weekend...
TrumpetNo6: He said it's absolutely ridiculous.
TrumpetNo6: Damn! That's EARLY.
mzkmnleroy: taking private lessons once a week,
rehearsing two or three times a week
mzkmnleroy: MISSING SCHOOL to do it
TrumpetNo6: Theyr'e nuts.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
TrumpetNo6: And....they don't even win
everything.
mzkmnleroy: and they still can't hold up against
cavies =)
TrumpetNo6: They went to Europe last year and
were supposed to sight see but rehearse everyday
except like twice..
TrumpetNo6: Wound up they only played like
twice in eleven days.
mzkmnleroy: cavaliers are just cool, man...their
attitudes, discipline, and raw ability are amazing
TrumpetNo6: Then they had like two weeks 'till
finals and had to have extra camps to make up the
lost time.
mzkmnleroy: hmm
TrumpetNo6: So do you think I...if I played good
at the tryout (hehe..yeah right) would have a chance
of playing first part at all?
mzkmnleroy: hell yeah
mzkmnleroy: what you have on trumpet...Eb or G?
TrumpetNo6: Eb.
TrumpetNo6: D...Eb
TrumpetNo6: C is gettin' real solid though.
TrumpetNo6: But max solid note when I'm not
tired is Eb.
mzkmnleroy: aight there you go...you would play
first...you automatically have a double G when
you're tired and you can expand above that just
because you'd be blowing so damn hard hehe
TrumpetNo6: Hmmm?
TrumpetNo6: Run that by me again.
mzkmnleroy: i could hold out Bbs...yeah it's the
equivalent of a trumpet's G, but it felt good hehe
TrumpetNo6: Is it 'cause of the size of the thing?
TrumpetNo6: It feels lower and sounds higher?
mzkmnleroy: pretty much...
TrumpetNo6: Cool.
TrumpetNo6: Then it would be a bad idea to move
to Bb's.
mzkmnleroy: maybe so
TrumpetNo6: I'm interested in this stuff.
TrumpetNo6: How old are the guys at the top?
TrumpetNo6: Was it the same two at the top first
round?
mzkmnleroy: if you play a 3rd space C, it's actually
trumpet's A
mzkmnleroy: i dunno
TrumpetNo6: Mr. Linehan actually thinks this
kinda' stuff is good to have.
mzkmnleroy: they're both vets...they are probably
junior in college
mzkmnleroy: kinda' stuff??
TrumpetNo6: Because it teaches you how to get
the job done when you feel like crap.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
TrumpetNo6: And how to play loud and forcefully
if necessarry.
mzkmnleroy: i do the job the best when i feel like
crap]
TrumpetNo6: I do the job best when I feel great.
TrumpetNo6: Hehe.
TrumpetNo6: Chop-wise.
TrumpetNo6: I can be like physically very ill but
still play good usually.
mzkmnleroy: but dude i am so discouraged...things
just arent the same...but don't get me wrong....i'm
not down on myself at all...when i get back from
church tomorrow i'm gonna' hit my horn for as long
as i can
TrumpetNo6: I usually play better..I don't tense up
as much.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
TrumpetNo6: And Really blow the air.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
mzkmnleroy: does your back expand when you
breathe properly?
TrumpetNo6: Well I've got a little spare skin back
there gettin ' in the way but I think so.
mzkmnleroy: some ppl say it should...i never have
felt it do that
TrumpetNo6: Yes it does.
mzkmnleroy: doh...i can't get it to...i guess it
doesn't matter
TrumpetNo6: Have you got a while?
TrumpetNo6: I wanna' send you an awesome
MP3.
mzkmnleroy: i guess
TrumpetNo6: Chase.
mzkmnleroy: but i wonder why some people can
hold notes out when i am taking breaks and
breathing
mzkmnleroy: aight
TrumpetNo6: He holds out a Double G like
Forever at the end of this tune then shakes up t A.
mzkmnleroy: haha
mzkmnleroy: he's bad
TrumpetNo6 wants to directly connect.
TrumpetNo6 is now directly connected.
mzkmnleroy: you know what i've thought about
doing?? (you may just say i'm a fool, but let me
explain my reasoning first)
TrumpetNo6 wants to send file C:\MP3
Files\artist\title\Track 04.mp3.
TrumpetNo6: Ok.
TrumpetNo6: Let me have it.
mzkmnleroy: well...tell me what you think
first...what would u think if i went back to my old 7c
for a little while?
TrumpetNo6: Not smart would be my first
impression.
TrumpetNo6: But tell me why and maybe I'll
change my mind.
mzkmnleroy: well...i am having major trouble
now...trouble that is really getting in my way...when i
was in the 6, 7, 8, and first part of 9th grades, i was
on my 7c...but when i got into marching season, i
was encouraged to get to my 3c...
mzkmnleroy: so i did, and it was not even a speed
bump on my road of playing--it was actually an
onramp to the interstate =)
mzkmnleroy: you heard how i sounded at lions
band 99 tryouts...then how i sounded at lb 99...now
there were problems AFTERWARD, but that's not
what i'm thinking about
TrumpetNo6: Ok.
mzkmnleroy: but at lb 99 tryouts, i had been on 3c
for...hardly 4 months?? hehe
mzkmnleroy: i just wonder what it would do...i am
having major trouble
TrumpetNo6: Yeah.
TrumpetNo6: I really have been finding all my
problems to be rooted to tension in my
breath..liips..etc..Before I even play.
mzkmnleroy: but i don't have any knowledge about
that stuff...
mzkmnleroy: all i am going on is instinct...you can't
read until you know what the words mean
TrumpetNo6: I would encourage you to do some
breathing excercises and Really incorporate that
"ahhh" relaxation into your actual playing.
mzkmnleroy: "ahhh"
TrumpetNo6: Like inhale for 10 counts at 60 bpm
and hold for 10 then exhale
mzkmnleroy: one thing i do feel, though...
TrumpetNo6: Like your choir shirt said.
mzkmnleroy: is extreme discomfort in the
mouthpiece
TrumpetNo6: Another thing to do is set a
metronome to any tempo and:
mzkmnleroy: like i'm crowded
TrumpetNo6: Breath in a full breath and exhale for
three beats and Inhale on the fourth.
TrumpetNo6: Then exhale three..etc.
mzkmnleroy: mm hmm
TrumpetNo6: Increase the rhythm speed to
quarters and eighths etc.
mzkmnleroy: mm hmm
TrumpetNo6: Get a bread bag.
mzkmnleroy: mm hmm
TrumpetNo6: And one of those small PVC pipes.
mzkmnleroy: mm hm
mzkmnleroy: m
TrumpetNo6: Put the bread bag around the pipe
(breathing tube thing I use).
TrumpetNo6: And do these excercises into the
bread bag.
mzkmnleroy: mm hmm
TrumpetNo6: FILL it up when exhaling and
FLATTEN it when you inhale.
TrumpetNo6: You'll learn to inhale a LOT of air
very quickly and to exhale it in a relaxed "ahh"
manner.
mzkmnleroy: ahh i see
TrumpetNo6: Then you have to really do that with
the horn.
mzkmnleroy: i'll do that
TrumpetNo6: Mr. Linehan had me do all this today
so I remember well.
TrumpetNo6: But it wasn't a bread bag.
mzkmnleroy: what was it?
TrumpetNo6: It was some hospital thing and when
I find out what it's really for I'll let you know.
mzkmnleroy: haha ok
TrumpetNo6: I'm gonna' ask the nurses.
mzkmnleroy: probably one of those things they
strap to a paralyzed man's leg to hold his urine
mzkmnleroy: haha
TrumpetNo6: ...we know them real well 'cause
we're Always at the clinic for me or one of my
siblings..speaking of which I havent' gotten an
allergy shot in forever.
mzkmnleroy: hehe
TrumpetNo6: No it's like stretchable material.
mzkmnleroy: oh i see
TrumpetNo6: Man Mr. Linehan makes me sick
sometimes.
TrumpetNo6: His sound is just Always SO
AWESOME.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
TrumpetNo6: And have you ever seen him read
something?
mzkmnleroy: whose is better--linehan or depoy?
TrumpetNo6: Man he's a FREAK.
mzkmnleroy: hehe
mzkmnleroy: well when you're a professional, you'll
be a freak too haha
TrumpetNo6: DePoy's is never airy...at least what
I've heard.
TrumpetNo6: Sometimes Linehan is a slight bit
airy.
mzkmnleroy: yeah...he was one time when he
didn't practice the day b/f...said he was a little stiff
TrumpetNo6: But Linehan's is
symphonic...orchestral and DePoy is just a great
sound...soloistic almost.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
mzkmnleroy: two different modes of playing
mzkmnleroy: two different guys
TrumpetNo6: They're two different styles of
playing so their sounds are different.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
TrumpetNo6: DePoy is just so smooth though.
mzkmnleroy: mm hmm
TrumpetNo6: Doesn't even hint and having any
waviness to it.
mzkmnleroy: depoy doesn't have to worry about
size of the sound...just the sound...linehan has to
have a huge sound all the time
TrumpetNo6: Linehan is always musical so it
moves somewhat.
TrumpetNo6: It's hard to compare them.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
TrumpetNo6: Really the best would be smack dab
in the middle.
mzkmnleroy: mm hmm
mzkmnleroy: i think i may have learned
something...
TrumpetNo6: ..which is where I played for a while
after that lesson w/DePoy but it kinda' wore off.
TrumpetNo6: I am currently working to get it back.
TrumpetNo6: Hehe I had it at the coast and the
conductor LOVED it.
mzkmnleroy: that's what happened to mee after 1st
linehan lesson
TrumpetNo6: So did I.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
TrumpetNo6: What sounds more at ease to my ear
is the solo type sound.
TrumpetNo6: Like I find it more pleasant to listen
to...which is why it's a solo sound.
TrumpetNo6: The orchestral sound is MUCH
more impressive though.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
TrumpetNo6: And can make such a musical
impression on a sustained non-dynamical second
line G.
mzkmnleroy: hehe
mzkmnleroy: that's what i want...big fat symphonic
sounds...linehan sounds
TrumpetNo6: What is awesome is somebody who
can do both.
mzkmnleroy: mm hmm
TrumpetNo6: And just choose which one at any
given moment.
mzkmnleroy: i hear that darcie (sp?) can choose
bright or dark...that's cool
TrumpetNo6: I believe Hankins can do it.
mzkmnleroy: i wish i could do that hehe
TrumpetNo6: He has been subbing with the
symphony a lot.
mzkmnleroy: no no...wait...i will do that
mzkmnleroy: maybe not soon...but i will
TrumpetNo6: Oh I know Darcie can play bright.
That's for sure.
mzkmnleroy: hehe that's the kind of woman i want
mzkmnleroy: but i hear she's a butch or something
TrumpetNo6: But I've never Really heard her do
dark.
mzkmnleroy: hehe
TrumpetNo6: Most of the time I hear her on a
Schilke P-4 which is a very bright, small sounding
trumpet.
mzkmnleroy: hmm
TrumpetNo6: But I like its sound.
TrumpetNo6: She's a butch?
TrumpetNo6: Hmm? I don't get the term.
mzkmnleroy: well...kinda' tom-boyish...but that
term (tomboy) is used for little girls...so she's either
a lesbian or a manly girl
mzkmnleroy: that's just what my dad said about her
when she played the pic solo in messiah (trumpet
shall sound)
TrumpetNo6: Oh yeah I've wondered myself.
TrumpetNo6: She always wears suits for concerts.
mzkmnleroy: hehe
mzkmnleroy: yeah haha
TrumpetNo6: And has short hair.
mzkmnleroy: that's what it was
TrumpetNo6: Oh man I wish I could've heard that.
TrumpetNo6: She's real nice though.
TrumpetNo6: Me and my dad talked to her this
summer when I was fixin' to play with Mr. Linehan.
mzkmnleroy: hehe
TrumpetNo6: Well...like in a few days I was and
he had a concert and I had some questions to ask
him about the music we were doing so I went to go
see it and ask him.
TrumpetNo6: She asked me if I was that kid from
Vicksburg that was supposed to be so good.
mzkmnleroy: haha
TrumpetNo6: 'Cause we were asking her about her
C-Trumpet and if it had a reg. or reverse tuning slide
and what kind it was and stuff.
mzkmnleroy: hehe
TrumpetNo6: And if balanced bell C's play better
than long bells and stuff.
mzkmnleroy: haha
TrumpetNo6: So she probably figured it was me
since not many kids know about that stuff around
here.
TrumpetNo6: Except like you.
TrumpetNo6: Clint got into an argument with me
today.
mzkmnleroy: i don't know much
mzkmnleroy received
c:\download\mzkmnleroy\Track 04.mp3.
The virus checker did not complete
successfully when checking the file
c:\download\mzkmnleroy\Track 04.mp3.
TrumpetNo6: He insisted that a good trumpet
player should only need a Bb,flugel, and picc.
TrumpetNo6: I was tellin' him about me needing to
get a C and stuff.
TrumpetNo6: He thinks that I should just transpose
everything.
TrumpetNo6: But he didn't agree with what I was
saying:
TrumpetNo6: That each key trumpet has a unique
timber and sound
TrumpetNo6: and different styles or playing are
meant for different horns.
TrumpetNo6: And they are all Different to play.
TrumpetNo6: ..in some facet or another.
TrumpetNo6: They're all trumpets..yes...but not the
same by far.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
TrumpetNo6: Each key...C,D,Eb,F,G has its own
quirks.
TrumpetNo6: And he would Not agree that some
literature should be played on C and not transposed
Bb.
TrumpetNo6: And he said a good trumpet player
can make a Bb sound like a C.
mzkmnleroy: that sounds so much like him
TrumpetNo6: He would not give up but I just shot
him down with reasoning much more technical then
his.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
TrumpetNo6: And then he just logged off.
mzkmnleroy: he's trying to be ultra conservative
TrumpetNo6: "I'm goin' to get somethin' to eat.
Bye."
mzkmnleroy: like get wynton to play hummel in Eb
on an Eb trumpet, then on a Bb trumpet...same
person, same orchestra...WAAY DIFFERENT
SOUNDS
TrumpetNo6: You just don't do that...play
something written as a solo piece for C trumpet on a
Bb and transpose.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
TrumpetNo6: It's not the same.
TrumpetNo6: Yeah the pitches will be really close
but the Sound is NOT.
mzkmnleroy: it's a good exercise...when you're
called upon to do it...but it's not a professional
procedure
TrumpetNo6: Right!
TrumpetNo6: If you're playing with an organist for a church service, the
hymns are in C then yeah..pop it up a step and add two sharps or remove
two flats.
mzkmnleroy: it's good to be able to do it at a gig when you don't have all
your stinkin horns w/ u
TrumpetNo6: But solo C stuff should be played on a C.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
TrumpetNo6: Listen to that song.
mzkmnleroy: my main argument would be on tonality...(what you were getting at)...an Eb's F major would have different
intonation discrepencies from a Bb's Ab major scale
mzkmnleroy: i think that's the right relation
TrumpetNo6:
TrumpetNo6: I see what you're saying.
TrumpetNo6: I'm not sure if the scales are right or notl
mzkmnleroy: yeah...but you get the point hehe
TrumpetNo6: From Bb to Eb is six half steps.
mzkmnleroy: i have trouble w/ that stuff
TrumpetNo6: So a Bb's Ab would be an Eb's Db.
mzkmnleroy: ok i went the wrong direction
mzkmnleroy: oh duh...here's the way i think of it...
mzkmnleroy: Bb & Eb...perfect 4th apart
TrumpetNo6: And the third of the Bb's horn would be flat and the third of the Eb's Db scale would likely be sharp.
mzkmnleroy: Bb's Ab is Eb's Db (Bb to Eb = Ab to Db)
TrumpetNo6: Maybe other direction.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
TrumpetNo6: Depends on which octave.
TrumpetNo6: Ok my brain hurts now.
TrumpetNo6: The fifth partial is a little sharp.
TrumpetNo6: (right above staff)
mzkmnleroy: yeah
mzkmnleroy: haha
TrumpetNo6: Fourth is flat.
mzkmnleroy: yeah i've got this one...gladbags & hanbags or whatever
TrumpetNo6: If it was the third of the Ab scale on a Bb horn it would be flat if it was on the fourth partial.
mzkmnleroy: hehe i don't care about that stuff...b/c my intonation is usually non-standard
mzkmnleroy: but maybe i just THINK it is
TrumpetNo6: And starting at the upper octave of the Eb's Db scale would be sharp.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
TrumpetNo6: I hear that double G now.
TrumpetNo6: Hehehe.
TrumpetNo6: I have one Maynard MP3.
mzkmnleroy: chase is bad
TrumpetNo6: It rules.
TrumpetNo6: He holds this ridiculously high note forever in Gonna' Fly Now.
mzkmnleroy: yeah haha
TrumpetNo6: Chase was truly awesome.
mzkmnleroy: mm hmm
mzkmnleroy: wish he was still around
TrumpetNo6: He was not a freak....He worked his ASS off to be able to play high.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
TrumpetNo6: One half step at a time.
mzkmnleroy: that's what i have to do
TrumpetNo6: I have the most awesome biography of him in ITG.
TrumpetNo6: You need to read it...it's amazing.
TrumpetNo6: Stories like this:
mzkmnleroy: just to get to where i can play all the stuff i need to play
mzkmnleroy: ...see...linehan doesn't have an incredible range...he can pick off Fs...but that's not the point...he has BALLS and
just plays awesome...that's what it takes
mzkmnleroy: he can't PLAY Fs though...and that is one of the brightest rays of hope in my life
TrumpetNo6: "I remember going to do a show then going to get something to eat at Bill's place..he was a great ameteur chef.
Or maybe a restaurant..depended on Bill. Then we'd go to the studio to rehearse at around midnight (that's then the rooms
were cheapest) and sometimes the eight A.M. crew would show up while we were still there."
mzkmnleroy: that's awesome
mzkmnleroy: hehe
TrumpetNo6: And they weren't done.
TrumpetNo6: They were Working Hard on Cut-offs..intonation...style...tempo..EVERYTHING.
mzkmnleroy: hey check it out...this one guy did a soprano sectional and we took a break once. when we came back, he
picked up a sop, wiped off the mouthpiece and played a low C, then messed around, then went up to a double C like it was
nothing...he looked like itwas so easy--it sounded super easy too
TrumpetNo6: Man the Canadian Brass rule..but their tuba player and trombone player (only founders left) are BAD!
mzkmnleroy: yeah
TrumpetNo6: Cool.
mzkmnleroy: he even got up to a triple D hehe
TrumpetNo6: That really would be bad to have that range.
TrumpetNo6: AhHHHH!
TrumpetNo6: Gary can play that note.
TrumpetNo6: Hehe.
mzkmnleroy: yeah...he really focused a lot on embochoure, though...not really much on air
TrumpetNo6: Anyways the trombone player and tuba player have Never missed a note at a concert I've been to.
TrumpetNo6: They sound Just like on the recordings Every time.
mzkmnleroy: it really makes me wonder what is the most efficient combo of air, lips, tongue, and teeth are
TrumpetNo6: mzkmnleroy: yeah...he really focused a lot on embochoure, though...not really much on air...who?
mzkmnleroy: yeah...that's virtuosity hehe
mzkmnleroy: that guy that played the double C & triple D cold
TrumpetNo6: Oh.
TrumpetNo6: I think everybody does the same thing but they just have different ways of thinking about it and explaining it.
TrumpetNo6: Have you ever heard John Faddis?
mzkmnleroy: no but i've heard of what he can do hehe
TrumpetNo6: OH MAN!
TrumpetNo6: I have one song he plays on with the Canadian Bras..this monumental brass choir thing with percussion in the
background (jazz drummer) and a lead trumpet line every now and then....John Faddis.
mzkmnleroy: hehe
TrumpetNo6: He was in an ITG journal and he had a transcript of a song he played....
TrumpetNo6: Top note was an A above double C.
TrumpetNo6: That's an OCTAVE higher than the Brandenburg!
mzkmnleroy: hehe
mzkmnleroy: on a Bb, too..not a pic..
mzkmnleroy: right?
TrumpetNo6: Mr. Linehan is gonna' play the Clarke Carnival of Venice and end on an F.
TrumpetNo6: Yes..you're right.
mzkmnleroy: sweet...i thought he couldn't hit that F...
TrumpetNo6: He can.
mzkmnleroy: ahh
TrumpetNo6: The way this F needs to be...he can.
mzkmnleroy: he couldn't at my last lesson hehe
TrumpetNo6: Now can he play it Andre-style on pic. in a Heroic March?
TrumpetNo6: I'm not totally sure he could.
TrumpetNo6: But power F's he can do.
mzkmnleroy: i don't get it man...i just don't think trumpet playing is for me
TrumpetNo6: man lately I have really come to realize how much I suck.
TrumpetNo6: Just producing a sound 100% correctly is very hard to do.
mzkmnleroy: sad that the thing i want to do the most--i have the mental capacity and the burning desire to....but i just don't get
it!
TrumpetNo6: ...all of the time.
TrumpetNo6: Like on my warm ups and schlossberg and even Clarke I can do it Right..but it took me forever.
mzkmnleroy: i mean...i would love to do it no matter what...whether i really understood it or not...but i can't seem to do it w/
understanding and i can't seem to do it w/o understanding (anymore)
TrumpetNo6: Like the day I play correctly (physically) on a sightreading excerpt is the day I no longer suck completely.
mzkmnleroy: hhehe
TrumpetNo6: Only halfway..Hehe.
mzkmnleroy: the day i can play up to a high C solidly without all the tension i always pile onto myself is when i will be ready to
audition for something!
mzkmnleroy: well...i take that back
mzkmnleroy: high A
TrumpetNo6: Hehe.
mzkmnleroy: solidily, etc...
TrumpetNo6: Man for some reason my chromatic scale always sounds best.
TrumpetNo6: ...incomparison to my other scales.
mzkmnleroy: i wish i could practice right now...but i was tonite and my bro needed this room...so i left and went somewhere
else but i forgot why i put the horn up\
mzkmnleroy: my lips feel like crap ... and have for two days, but i'm playing so well to have just gotten back on my Bb tonight
TrumpetNo6 wants to send file C:\MP3 Files\artist\title\Track 04_0424141036.mp3: That is awesome.
mzkmnleroy: what is it?
TrumpetNo6: Jens Lindemann.
mzkmnleroy: aight
TrumpetNo6: Pic solo un-accompanined. I guess really a cadenza for PennY Lane.
mzkmnleroy: cool
TrumpetNo6: As you can see I just hit the save button for MP3's and never bother to change the file name.
mzkmnleroy: yeah hehe
TrumpetNo6: Except for like three of them.
mzkmnleroy: hehe
mzkmnleroy: yeah i rename all mine b/c i want them all to be in same format...
mzkmnleroy: D:/mp3s/albums/group name/album title/artist - track number (leading 0) - track name.mp3
mzkmnleroy: then the ones i download go in D:/mp3s/singles/drum corps/ or just singles/
TrumpetNo6: Dang.
TrumpetNo6: Hehe.
TrumpetNo6: Hehe.
mzkmnleroy: i can stinking wait till i get home
TrumpetNo6: I have like four Blue Devils things.
mzkmnleroy: i am gonna FUCKETY FUCK FUCKIN FUCK work on relaxation and kicking ass hehe
TrumpetNo6: Then Napster quit working on me.
mzkmnleroy: doh
TrumpetNo6: Why can't you wait?
mzkmnleroy: because i want to practice!!!
mzkmnleroy: BAD
TrumpetNo6: You're gonna' kick some majorly fuckin' big asses.
mzkmnleroy: hahahahahaha
mzkmnleroy: lol
TrumpetNo6: I'm good at coming up with shit like that that sounds funny.
TrumpetNo6: The first one tonight was funier.
TrumpetNo6: Mother fuckin' son of a fat ass bitch. Hehe.
mzkmnleroy: dude i am sick of just hoping for it to happen...if it doesn't happen, i'll just write a "resting in the peace of his
hands" and kill myself in the bathtub...if it does happen, it'll really happen
mzkmnleroy: hehe
mzkmnleroy: and i'll wait for it to until i die
mzkmnleroy: hehe
TrumpetNo6: Yeah.
TrumpetNo6: My dad gave me some fatherly advice today.
TrumpetNo6: Concerning women.
mzkmnleroy: ahhh
TrumpetNo6: He was like "Man it's like credit cards."
TrumpetNo6: "The first one is Really hard to get. 'Cause you don't have a credit history."
TrumpetNo6: "But...you get that first one..make regular payments..not paying the whole thing off at once..but regular
payments and other companies start to notice you."
TrumpetNo6: "And they get jealous."
TrumpetNo6: See it's like that with women.
mzkmnleroy: haha
TrumpetNo6: As soon as you break up with that first one...as long as you're still being sweet all of the time..
TrumpetNo6: They other ones are gonna' flock to you and you'll never have to really look again.
mzkmnleroy: hehe yeah
TrumpetNo6: 'Cause after the first credit card you never have to try again..they come in the mail all of the time.
TrumpetNo6: Hehe.
TrumpetNo6: You gotta' do this:
mzkmnleroy: hehe
TrumpetNo6: Be sweet.
mzkmnleroy received c:\download\mzkmnleroy\Track 04_0424141036.mp3.
TrumpetNo6: And at least Pretend that everything she says is interesting.
TrumpetNo6: You don't have to really think so.
TrumpetNo6: But act like it.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
TrumpetNo6: And you have to listen to a few words so you can add to the conversation.
mzkmnleroy: mm hmm
TrumpetNo6: Like "I've never thought of it that way."
TrumpetNo6: "You're right."
TrumpetNo6: Hehe.
TrumpetNo6: Oh man it was hilarious the way he said it though.
mzkmnleroy: i wish somebody could give me advice like that for trumpeting...i just have to come up with it myself haha
mzkmnleroy: but that's ok
TrumpetNo6: Well I try but I only know so little.
mzkmnleroy: (parallels, not direct help)
mzkmnleroy: i am feeling more uneasy about trying out for all-south
TrumpetNo6: I need to make a freakin' tape soon.
TrumpetNo6: Like Wednesday or something.
mzkmnleroy: cuz' i don't think i'll do well, and i defintiely won't have themoney to go if i did get asked to come
mzkmnleroy: or however it happens
TrumpetNo6: Oh.
mzkmnleroy: i just keep feeling less confident about my playing all the time
mzkmnleroy: i need to do a lot of basics
mzkmnleroy: and working on a solo doesn't help at all
TrumpetNo6: All that means is your definition of good standards is getting higher.
TrumpetNo6: You've got Schlossberg?
mzkmnleroy: yeah
TrumpetNo6: Ok man.
mzkmnleroy: k
TrumpetNo6: I'm gonna' write you a long ass E Mail and tell you which ones to do and give additional instructions.
TrumpetNo6: That should help.
mzkmnleroy: goodie
mzkmnleroy: i'll get it tomorrow when i get home
TrumpetNo6: Now it''ll give you an Idea.
TrumpetNo6: We'll talk more about it though.
TrumpetNo6: It should helpa lot.
mzkmnleroy: aight
mzkmnleroy: i am really proud of myself for taking great care of this trumpet & mouthpiece...nothing that wasn't there before
(except for normal mouthpiece usage markings...scratches on shank from leadpipe opening
mzkmnleroy: )
TrumpetNo6: Yeah.
TrumpetNo6: That's cool.
TrumpetNo6: You like it?
mzkmnleroy: it's ok
mzkmnleroy: i think there's just something about my playing that still pleases people...regardless of how little progress i see
myself making...like check out what the guys who listened to me said...
TrumpetNo6: Ok.
mzkmnleroy: "good fundamental sound...moderate range..." "don't clip 16th notes...go for full sound" and stuff like that
TrumpetNo6: Yeah.
mzkmnleroy: see in my low & mid registers, i have a good enough sound to where if i get my upper register that way i will
have something GREAT to work with
TrumpetNo6: I get that a lot...the full sound.
mzkmnleroy: yeah i got better at it this weekend...we worked on it a lot
mzkmnleroy: (cavies)
TrumpetNo6: Cool.
mzkmnleroy: reminding us constantly...
mzkmnleroy: "full body of sound"...i acheived a better understanding and execution...but long way to go
mzkmnleroy: i am just praying for a miracle in my upper register
TrumpetNo6: Hehe.
mzkmnleroy: dude you ought to see if you can win denise garrett over...i think that would be so funny
mzkmnleroy: hehe i have fallen away...i now refer to her by 1st & last name
TrumpetNo6: I don't even know her.
TrumpetNo6: I've never spoken to her.
mzkmnleroy: so? she knows who u are
TrumpetNo6: How is that?
mzkmnleroy: not just b/c i talk about you hehe
mzkmnleroy: well she knew you have always been a prominent trumpeter in MS
TrumpetNo6: How?
TrumpetNo6: Always?
TrumpetNo6: I only started getting better in 9th grade.
mzkmnleroy: well she saw u at lb 99...big #6 ... then must have seen u at lb 00...big #3...+ my talking about you as my
competition for 01
mzkmnleroy: hehe
TrumpetNo6: Oh.
TrumpetNo6: Cool.
TrumpetNo6: Hehe.
mzkmnleroy: but we are best of friends so it's almost like it's not competition--that's awesome
TrumpetNo6: Yeah it's like fun.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
mzkmnleroy: because either way we know the job will get done hehe
mzkmnleroy: i guess for you haha
TrumpetNo6: HEhehe.
TrumpetNo6: Yeah.
TrumpetNo6: Oh I hope so.
mzkmnleroy: (i think u know what i mean) haha
TrumpetNo6: yeah I gotchya' there.
TrumpetNo6: Hehe.
mzkmnleroy: hehe
mzkmnleroy: i love my trumpet
mzkmnleroy: i miss it
mzkmnleroy: i have the awesomest valves on the planet
mzkmnleroy: and the coolest horn hehe
mzkmnleroy: unique
TrumpetNo6: Yeah.
TrumpetNo6: It was SO cool in 7th grade.
TrumpetNo6: It was clean and shiny and new.
TrumpetNo6: ..new looking.
TrumpetNo6: Man Jeffery Hansford is cool.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
TrumpetNo6: He's on AOL IM.
mzkmnleroy: hahaha funny ma
mzkmnleroy: n
TrumpetNo6: Jeffery is fourth in DSU's wind ensemble.
mzkmnleroy: hehe
mzkmnleroy: i wonder if he got over the fat tongue syndrome
TrumpetNo6: He said Dr. Hankins is a good teacher.
mzkmnleroy: btw, lightening up my tonguing is what got my Fs out...woo hoo
mzkmnleroy: it really made my Bbs on those G bugles easy
TrumpetNo6: Hey...I guessed right! Naw...I reasoned correctly.
mzkmnleroy: hehe
mzkmnleroy: well it helped...but i still need to keep the air going
mzkmnleroy: for some reason i want to slow the air down when i tongue lightly...
mzkmnleroy: so i am working on it
TrumpetNo6: Hmmm.
TrumpetNo6: Yeah I can see where you'd get that tendency.
mzkmnleroy: hehe
mzkmnleroy: at least i recognize it =)
TrumpetNo6: It makes sense to do That as a mistake.
TrumpetNo6: Now if you like for some reason lowered your tongue to do it lightly...That wold not make sense.
TrumpetNo6: But what you said does.
mzkmnleroy: i had a much cleaner sound tonite
mzkmnleroy: like it was freshly mopped up...just a few drops here and there
TrumpetNo6: Hehe. Cool.
TrumpetNo6: Yeah mine too but I was tired after having a lesson so my practice wasn't as fruitful.
TrumpetNo6: I have got to Relax.
mzkmnleroy: i had some MAD F resets though...4 straight no prob...they didn't sound the greatest but the air was there, the
lips were there, and most of all, the starts, holds, and releases were there and good
mzkmnleroy: yeah i have lots of relaxing to do
TrumpetNo6: Cool.
mzkmnleroy: i still feel weird in my lips though
TrumpetNo6: I got E's out.
mzkmnleroy: when i slur up high and stuff....
TrumpetNo6: I didn't go for any F's.
TrumpetNo6: This is my mental picture for restets.
mzkmnleroy: k
TrumpetNo6: I imagine the end of a tune and whatever note I'm about to play is gonna' be picked off loud and clear by
me...the lead trumpeter.
TrumpetNo6: Hehe.
mzkmnleroy: hehe
TrumpetNo6: Seems to work.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
mzkmnleroy: matt brann always said he would imagine himself at a football game
TrumpetNo6: I do like three E's and then stand up for the last one.
mzkmnleroy: some dude in the visitors stands would stand up and play a high C...hold it out...
mzkmnleroy: then brann would stand up and play it back
mzkmnleroy: then the other would go to C#...then brann would match
TrumpetNo6: Hehe.
mzkmnleroy: ..it was like his dream...i though that was awesome
TrumpetNo6: Cool.
mzkmnleroy: another thing was before lions band 99...he could play D to D octave skips
mzkmnleroy: it was awesome
mzkmnleroy: haha
TrumpetNo6: Cool.
TrumpetNo6: I can (totally improperly) go Low to mid C to High C to low C.
mzkmnleroy: i remember in 9th grade i went up to a high Eb in front of jessica...i thought it was pretty impressive hehe
TrumpetNo6: Yeah man.
TrumpetNo6: Hehe.
TrumpetNo6: Everybody's heard me slaughter high notes.
mzkmnleroy: haha
TrumpetNo6: But they've heard me belt them out too.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
TrumpetNo6: For a couple of days Mr. Wigginton wanted me to play this high C all by myself for a few beats 'til the band
came back in rather than hearing a drum major go "One two three.."
TrumpetNo6: And you know..I hit it a few times and I horribly sucked a few times.
TrumpetNo6: Of course it was like 40 degrees outside and windy.
TrumpetNo6: Plus it was 8:00 AM.
mzkmnleroy: yeah hehe
TrumpetNo6: One time everyboyd laughed at me..I think I hit a Bb instead.
TrumpetNo6: I was like "Yeah! That was me! You get up here and try it!"
TrumpetNo6: You want a shot at missing it? Huh?
mzkmnleroy: hahaha
TrumpetNo6: Be my guest!
mzkmnleroy: haha
TrumpetNo6: Well that's mroe along the lines of what Mr. King said.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
mzkmnleroy: i would have bowed or something
TrumpetNo6: I did.
TrumpetNo6: I turned around and faced everybody to acknowledge my screw up.
TrumpetNo6: You know...held my hands up in the air and kinda' nodded.
mzkmnleroy: i have missed plenty of notes in front of people...one time seniors sat out to watch show (i was soph), so i played
bryan wilsons solo...i played ok except a rip up to a G...my mouth was all dry and i hit an E...ewww
mzkmnleroy: i just smiled and ran to my spot
TrumpetNo6: Hehehehehe.
TrumpetNo6: Yeah I missed one day of marching band this year.
TrumpetNo6: And when I got back everybody was raving about how funny it was when these other guys tried to play my
solos.
mzkmnleroy: haha
TrumpetNo6: I didn't hear it so I'm not sure if it was that bad or not.
mzkmnleroy: it probably was
TrumpetNo6: They were probablye exxaggerating.
TrumpetNo6: Hell I didn't play it great to begin with.
mzkmnleroy: i wish i could have stood in front of u to hear it
mzkmnleroy: but it was kinda quiet from the side
TrumpetNo6: You were there in front of me at our game.
TrumpetNo6: But our fans kinda' TALK the whole time.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
mzkmnleroy: so do ours
mzkmnleroy: ...Mchs's
TrumpetNo6: Yeah.
TrumpetNo6: I could hear myself great on the tape of Pearl from the top of the press box.
TrumpetNo6: I had to back off on all the sectional stuff though so I wouldn't stand out.
mzkmnleroy: yeah
TrumpetNo6: Well man I've got to get Some sleep.
mzkmnleroy: me 2 hehe
TrumpetNo6: Oh crap! I have church tomorrow!
mzkmnleroy: yeah me 2 hehe
mzkmnleroy: i'll e-mail u tomo....tell u how practice goes
mzkmnleroy: hey man best of luck with women of the future
TrumpetNo6: Ahhh...I'm done for a while.
TrumpetNo6: Hehe.
mzkmnleroy: hehe
mzkmnleroy: too bad
TrumpetNo6: God Bless. C'ya man.
mzkmnleroy: u2
mzkmnleroy: peace
TrumpetNo6: C'ya.
