Baptism Is Not a "Work" One day, a man suggested to me that to call upon people to be baptized into Christ was to teach "works salvation" in contradiction to Ephesians 2:8, 9 ("not of works"). Many people misunderstand this matter. Baptism is not an act which a believer performs, but one which is performed upon him. The command to "be baptized" is in the passive voice. In baptism it is God, not the one being baptized, who operates (Colossians 2:12).
