Brief Info On Jersey Wooly Rabbit!
 |
The Jersey Wooly is a small breed of rabbit. They have an average weight range from 1 1/2 to 3 1/2 pounds. They are a recongnized breed by ARBA, The American Rabbit Breeders Association. They were reconginized by ARBA in 1988, at the Madison, Wisconsin Convention. They owe a great deal of credit of thier success to thier creator Bonnie Seeley. Without her untiring effort, we would not have the wooly we have today. Jersey Woolies should also be noted for thier very gentle temperments. It is very rarely that I come across a "fiesty" one. Even they can usually be calmed down. Jersey Woolies, are a wooled breed, with wool on thier entire bodies except the head, ears and foot region. Don't be alarmed though, most have very easy and managable coats with a very easy to care for wool.
Now the Jersey Wooly rabbit comes in many varities (meaning colors) but only certain ones are showable. These showable colors are: Agouti group (witch includes: chestnut, chinchilla, opal and squirrel) Aov group (black and blue pointed whites) Self group (black, blue, blue eyed white, chocolate, lilac and ruby eyed white) Shaded Group (blue tortoise shell, sable point, seal, siamese sable, smoke pearl and tortoise shell) and finally, the Tan Group (Black and Blue otter, sable marten, smoke pearl marten and black-blue-chocolate-lilac silver marten's).
* Broken Jersey Woolies are now accepted to be shown, as of now they are included in the AOV Group, they may however, soon be shown in thier own group.
Here at the Hutch, I have been very busy with revamping my herd. I am striving very hard for jersey woolies as close to the standard as I can get them. I have awlyas seemed to have good "luck" with my woolies. I have done well at shows, but never felt like I had a plan to what I was doing. I have since made that plan and am working toward it. Of course, a good temperment is just as important as well. My lines mature around 6-9 months of age so I hold on to juniors for quite a while most the time. Also, during this transtional time I will be having some of my old breeding animals come available as soon as I have juniors to replace them. So, keep checking back often to see what's new!
