Our Chapter Dances:

Our next dance is Saturday August 4th at Keesler Community Center. Instruction in dance steps will be the first hour, followed by music by a DJ.

The Center has a large wooden floor, and our dances alternate between live bands, and disk jockeys. There's always a free dance lesson from 7 to 8 p.m., and dancing from 8 to 11 p.m. The cost is $10 per person, and a cash bar is available. Lessons are taught by the local dance studios, and dance demonstration are usually be performed.

Daphne Dance Schedule

To get to Keesler Center, go to White Avenue on Highway 90, then north two blocks to Keesler AFB gate. Go to second stoplight, turn right, and Center is on the right. For information call Janet Green 228-872-9763.

Regular Area Dances:

Here are the regular area dances with bands:

There's a Sunday dinner-dance at the Gulfport Elk's Lodge (228-864-7551) on Highway 90 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., with a live band every Sunday. The cost is $8 per person and that includes dinner.

The President (228-385-3500), Beau Rivage (228-386-7111), and Boomtown (228-435-7000) casinos all have regular weekly dances. But call before you go, as the casinos change their schedules often.

The President's ballroom dance is on Friday at 10:30 a.m. There's also a swing dance at the President at 8 p.m. on Wednesday nights.

The Beau Rivage has Thursday night Salsa dancing.

Boomtown's country dancing is on Sunday morning at 10:30.

The Azalea Ballroom Dance Club in Mobile, Alabama has dances with bands on the first and third Tuesday of every month at the Elk's Lodge located on Dauphin Island Parkway.

Also, the Tiki Supper Club in Gautier (228-497-1591) has regular Friday and Saturday night dinner-dances with live dance music.

There is a once a month dance at the Pascagoula Elk's Club sponsored by the Krewe of Entre Nous. The dances cost $15 per couple, are BYOB, have setups for sale, and last from 8 to 12 p.m. Call Kitty at 228-588-6153 or e-mail at Administrator@drmccloskey.com for details.

As you can see from the flyer at the left, the City of Slidell is offering lessons and a formal dance this summer. Call the city recreation department for details.

There's plenty of dancing on the east side of Mobile Bay. First off, there's a dance on the second and fourth Thursday of every month at 8 to 11 p.m. at the Civic Center in Fairhope, Alabama (334-928-2835). The cost is $8 (see schedule below).

The Daphne Civic Center has dances the first and third Thursday to alternate with the above Fairhope dances (see schedule above). The center is located just off I-10 and Highway 98 at 2603 Highway 98, Daphne. Dress is coat and tie, and dance dresses. Bring your own refreshments and snacks, and ice will be provided. The cost will be $8.00. Call the Civic Center at 334-626-5300 for more information.

There are also several dances in Slidell, LA. The Slidell Senior Center (504-641-4018) has live-music dances at the center on the third Friday of each month. Dances start at 7 p.m. and cost $5 per person.

One Time Dances:

There are also a number of one time dances.

On Sunday, July 29 there's a dance at the Southport Hall, at 200 Monticello Ave., in New Orleans. Music by Julio and Cesar (super Latin music). The cost is $25 per couple for dance and workshop. Lessons start at 3:30 p.m., dancing from 4:30 to 7. Call 504-231-3517.

On Friday August 3 at 7 p.m. there's a dance ath the Lions Club in Mandeville. Lessons at 7, dancing at 8 to a big band. Tickets are $15 per person. Call 985-892-0865.

If you're planning well ahead, there's a elegant, formal dinner-dance October 19 atop the Hancock Bank building in downtown Gulfport. This is a room with glass walls on the top floor of a 15 story building overlooking Gulfport harbor. It has one of the most magnificent views on the coast. Cocktails at 6 p.m., dance exhibits at 6:30, dinner at 7:30, and dancing to the Latin band of Julio and Cesar from 8 to 12 p.m. And for all USABDA members there's an early bird special price of $40 for the entire evening.
