JULY 1ST, BARRIE, ONTARIO "EDGEFEST '98" - It was a perfect day for an outdoor festival. The sun was shining and there was a nice cool breeze in the air. The Foo Fighters just finished up and they were cleaning up for Green Day. I was right up in the front row with my cousin anticipating their apperance. First, Out came tre's drum kit which was close to burnt to a crisp from past concerts. The crowd cheered. Then, out came mike's various basses on a rack. Then finally out came their roadie Chunks with Billie's "old blue" guitar. The crowd once again went wild. Some fat guy kept checking tre's drums to get a good sound but i think he checked them a little too much. after waiting what we think was about half an hour between foo fighters and Green day, out ran Tre holding his drum sticks high in the air. Then followed Billie with his guitar and his arms up in the air and then followed Mike who was carefully selecting a bass from his rack. Mike strapped on his selcted bass and the band burst into "Nice Guys finish last". Immediatly about what we think was eight slam pits ( one in which we got caught in ) burst into rampent moshing. After the song the band went immediatly into "hitchin' a ride". After the song, Billie said "I'm gonna tell all you fuckers something: I'm fucking running for the fucking mayor of fucking Toronto. When I'm mayor Teenage fucking sex will be rampent across the fucking land, there will be a fucking six pack of fucking beer in every fucking one of your fucking refridgerators every fucking morning, and every fucking drug will be fucking legalized!" They then went into "Geek Stink Breath" and after that "Welcome To Paradise". Billie then went off stage to grab his devil's mask and marrocas and started chanting "The Beautiful People, The Beautiful People, The Beautiful People". They then went into "Longview" in which Billie insisted that everyone participate. Then they played "Brain Stew" which rocked. After that, Billie carefully selected a guitarist from the audience who came up on stage to finish off "Knowledge". He said to the kid (whom i think was named Tim who was from London Fucking Ontario ) "If you suck, everyone here will kick your ass". Luckily for the kid he didn't suck. Billie then made him jump into the crowd. They then played "Basket Case" which also rocked. Then they played "King For A Day" with Chunks on guitar and No Doubt's horn players during which Billie took off his shoes, then his pants to reveal his leopard skin thong. He Started to feel himself up and dance around. They then went into "When I Come Around" which everyone went crazy for. Tre then nocked over his drum kit and poured lighter fluid all over them and lit them on fire. Mike then through his bass up into the air almost hiting the lights and it came down with a thud followed by serious reverb. Billie put on a werewolf mask and put all his guitars against his marshall stack causing even more reverb. The whole band came out and poured water on everyone. Then Billie put his pants back on and played "Good Riddance" ( the electric version ). And then Tre jumped into the crowed wearing a Canadian flag. And that was that. Green Day's work was done. - Rob and Matt.
