Kat's First Day

**WARNING** I imbibe Gallons of JackDaniels (in other words ... implied slash)

As Kat is escorted through the halls of Cheyenne Mountain Complex, she wonders, 'What the heck do these people want with me? I mean, I only know a spattering of a few languages, a smidge of biology, and a teensy bit of astrophysics... Especially someplace as top secret as this place.'

When she is finally led into the Briefing Room she stops with a start, staring at the huge pewterish ring in the room below.

"What on Earth is that?"

"That is what this facility is for."

The voice behind Kat causes her to turn as abrubtly as she had stopped. She comes face to face with one of the most beautiful women she's ever seen.

"Hi. I'm Major Samantha Carter. You must be the new 'gopher' Kat McFadden. You're early."

"Ummm. Hi. I'm a what?"

"A 'gopher'. You know, go-fer this and go-fer that."

"Oh!" A look of comprehension crosses Kat's face. "Why me? I mean, the Air Force has plenty of them already."

The major laughs at that. "You're right! I think it might be because of the trivia you seem to pick up so easily. You know bits of this and that about everything. Anyway, since you're early why don't I show you around a bit."

"Okay."

Kat follows Major Carter through an amazing labyrinth of corridors listening avidly as the major explains the uses of each area and room and how they are vital to the facility.

Suddenly, in front of an office with the name Colonel J. O'Neill on the door, Major Carter stops and cocks her head to the side as if listening intensely.

Then Kat hears it too. It sounds like, like someone is in serious pain. Abrubtly the noises stop. Major Carter blushes and waves her hand to indicate that they should continue the tour.

As Major Carter leads the way, almost pontificating about the 'state of the art' equipment in the lab, Kat looks over her shoulder and sees a gorgeous man with blue eyes, sandy blond hair, and the most satisfied expression on his face leaving the room.

'I think I'm gonna like this place'

The End
