Angel's First Day

Her sleep was restless, the dream was the same, her wedding day. He looked into her eyes and she into his. "Forever" He said to her. "Forever" she repeated through tears. Then the minister would announce " I now pronounce you Mr and Mrs John Bonner. You may kiss the bride"

However this dream was a little different - just before the long awaited kiss, there was a loud pounding in the distance.

"What? What's going on?" Angel bolted up in her bed. It was another few seconds before she realized someone was at the door. Wiping the tears that always came with the dream, she headed for the door, tripping over her cat in the process. She opened the door and with a tinge of annoyance in her voice, she addressed the figures on the other side. "Who the hell do you think you are? It's four in the morning! What......" her voice trailed off as she noticed what they looked like. There were three of them, two male and one female, all dressed in fatigues. "Um, if this is about the joke I played on the Dean, I didn't think it would actually shred his pants."

"Are you Dr. Angeline Bonner?" the female asked.

"Yes, and you are?"

“That's not important, you need to come with us." The bigger gentleman answered.

"Wait just one minute! Where are we going?"

"That's need to know only doctor."

"Well, I need to know. Do we have to go now? I mean I need a shower, and coffee, lots of coffee."

"You have 30 minutes then we leave, whether you're dressed or not."

"I guess I'd better hurry."

90 minutes later:

An hour and a half later they pulled up to what appeared to be a rather large mountain. "What is that?"

"That, Dr Bonner, is the Cheyenne Mountain Complex."

"What does the military want with me?"

"That will all be explained inside." Responded the driver, who, up until now, had been seemingly mute, as they pulled up to the front gate.

Inside, she was led to an elevator, where the group started their descent to parts unknown.

"So, What's going on down here?" She asked the soldier to her left. He did not respond, only looked straight ahead. Angel looked ahead and muttered under her breath, "Curiouser and curiouser."

When the elevator stopped, the soldiers escorted her to what looked like a meeting room. It had a large, oval table and chairs around it.

The young soldier who had not responded in the elevator, looked at her and said, "The General will be with you in a few minutes to brief you, please have a seat." With that the soldiers left and it was then that she looked out of the rather large window in the room.

What she saw through it.... was amazing. It looked like a giant ring, with some sort of symbols on it. "Well Alice, I don't think this is wonderland." With a lot of new information to process, she sat down at the table and waited for her briefing.

Angel sat at the large table in the briefing room, she had long ago given up any hope of understanding the situation. What does the military have against sleeping in? I mean really, they get you out of bed in the middle of the night and then keep you waiting forever. She felt exhausted, so she slowly lowered her head to the desk and fell into a deep sleep. As she slept, she missed a bright flash of light from the window that indicated a team was returning from off-world.

A short while later: Angel woke with a start at the sound of a slightly heavy object being dropped on the table she was currently using as a rather impromptu, not to mention uncomfortable, pillow.

"Wha..." Was all she could manage in her present state of mind. She looked around frantically as she tried to rid her mind of the fog that had enveloped it.

A deep voice cleared its throat and spoke to her. "Dr Bonner, I presume?"

"Last time I checked." She croaked, "And you are?"

"General Hammond, United States Air Force. Sorry for the delay."

"Um, can you please tell me where I am and what I'm doing here?"

"You are at the StarGate Command, and you have been recruited to add your expertise to one of our new teams."

"Recruited?" Angel laughed, "Drafted is more like it. I really don't see how I can help, I'm a civilian." She sat in silence for a moment before asking another question. "What in the world is StarGate Command?"

"The SGC is a government project developed for exploration. You will meet your team after you get a complete medical exam."

"A physical? Oh, rapture." Hammond suppressed a chuckle at her response. "Private Keith, here," He said, motioning to the young private that suddenly appeared in the doorway, "will escort you to the infirmary. There you will report to Dr Fraiser." Angel and the private started to walk out when Hammond called to her, "Dr Bonner," Angel turned to look at him. "Welcome to the SGC." With that she left and was led down the halls to the infirmary.

The whole way there her head swimming with unanswered questions.

The End
