Non-Commissioned Officers and Privates of the Reserve Battalion

have erected this stone to mark the spot where lie the remains
of Asst. Surgeon Grantham
and twenty-four men, women and children, of that Regiment, who
perished near the shore by the sinking
of the steamer Commerce on the night of the 6th May 1850, whilst
on their route from Montreal to London."
