Silent Night, Deadly Night 2
The sequel to the once-controversial original opens up as the previous film's killer's younger brother Ricky (Eric Freeman) is being questioned by a psychiatrist in an asylum. Ricky tells the horrible story in many flashbacks, which is just recycled footage from the first, taking up half of the film! Finally, Ricky tells his story, as the audience is revealed as to why he's in a sanitarium.
Ricky was adopted by loving parents, due to the orphange's closing because of Mother Superior's stroke. Just like his big brother Billy, who was killed in the first installment, Ricky's terrified of Santa Claus and the color red. As years pass, Ricky grows up to be a maniac. At first, he only kills a couple of wrongdoers, which he gets away with, but soon it gets out of hand, and he goes crazy, killing many people.
Ricky eventually escapes the confinement of the asylum, seeking out to avenge his brother's death on Mother Superior (Jean Miller), now wheelchair-bound. It's Christmas Eve once again. Will anyone be able to survive Santa Claus suit-clad Ricky's bloodbath?
This is pretty much a disappointment, considering that almost half of the movie is footage from the first film! This time, touches of black comedy are thrown in, giving Ricky Freddy Krueger-like wisecracks. When Ricky goes out with his girlfriend Jennifer (played by Elizabeth Kaitan) to a movie, there's yet more footage from Silent Night, Deadly Night shown! This, along with Boogeyman 2, is an example of what some filmmakers can get away with! Many of the stars from the original are shown, all in repeat footage, including a memorable scene featuring Linnea Quigley. Directed by Lee Harry, this is recommended, despite all of the footage from the first one.
