Intruder

Supermarket clerks stocking overnight for a going-out-of-business sale are disturbed when a female employee's ex-boyfriend refuses to leave. The girl, Jennifer (Elizabeth Cox), broke up with her boyfriend Craig (David Byrnes) some time ago, due to his hostile behavior, ending him up in jail. Recently released, Craig harasses Jennifer, disliking the fact that they're not a couple anymore. Refusing to leave, Craig's finally found by the crew members, and he's forced outside.

Obviously very shakened by the incident, Jennifer receives threatening phone calls from Craig. On top of that, a homicidal maniac has made his way into the store, slicing and dicing his way through the employees. Everyone is killed, leaving Jennifer to discover the shocking truth. Is the killer Craig, or is it someone else?

This 1988 slasher, directed by Scott Spiegel (co-writer of the Evil Dead trilogy), boasts appearances by Evil Dead trilogy director Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell, who starred in the series. Despite all of these connections to The Evil Dead, Intruder takes a little while for anything to happen. The gore effects were obviously trimmed down for an 'R' rating, but the various, odd camera angles are pretty interesting (i.e. through a shopping cart, phone, etc.). Most of the characters are pretty likeable, especially Renée Estevez's (Molly from Sleepaway Camp 2: Unhappy Campers) character Linda, whose demise is unfortunately the first. The movie plays sort of like a Friday the 13th film, pitting all of the characters in sheer terror with no way out. Basically, the plot's pretty typical, along with the usual clichés and an unsatisfying ending, but watchable and recommended to gorefans, especially those of the Evil Dead trilogy. Also known as Night Crew: The Final Checkout.
