The House on Sorority Row

On a dark and stormy night, on July 19, 1961, Dorothy Slater (Lois Kelso Hunt) gave birth. Unfortunately, something was wrong with her baby. Many years later, Mrs. Slater is the house mother of Theta Pi, a sorority. Every year, Mrs. Slater closes the house on July 19, but the girls have no clue to why.

Mrs. Slater somehow blames the doctor which delivered her baby for something that went horribly wrong. She is very bitter now, and is very strict with the sorority sisters. One night, a sorority sister, Vicki (Eileen Davidson in an early role), is caught having sex in her bedroom, and Mrs. Slater slashes her waterbed with her sharp-pointed cane.

The seven sorority sisters staying at the sorority on the weekend of their graduation come up with a joke to play on Mrs. Slater. Vicki gets the gun her boyfriend gave her, and the girls put Mrs. Slater's cane in the dirty pool that Mrs. Slater hasn't cleaned for a very long time. Vicki points the gun at Mrs. Slater, forcing her to go into the pool and get her cane, but the joke goes horribly wrong, and Vicki accidentally shoots Mrs. Slater to death.

The girls then decide to heave Mrs. Slater's body into the dingy pool, while they throw their graduation party. Although, soon, the seven discover that Mrs. Slater's body is missing from the pool, and the girls then start to mysteriously disappear one by one, as someone takes revenge into their own hands and kills them one by one, until Katie (Kathryn McNeil) is the only one left to discover the horrifying secret.

This has to be one of my most favorite '80's horror films ever made. Unfortunately, this film didn't receive much publicity, therefore making it underrated. The soundtrack, composed by Richard H. Band, flows beautifully, and sets the movie with an eerie mood. It is planned that this will be released soon to DVD, which I can hardly await. This is definitely a film which no horror movie fan can miss. Highly recommended.
