Final Destination

The film opens up as Alex Browning (Devon Sawa) is getting ready for a French class field trip to Paris. Boarding Flight 180, he soon has a realistic, shocking premonition about a plane explosion which kills everyone. Alex then wakes up, obviously and truly freaked out, causing him, five other students, and a teacher to be thrown off the plane.

As they watch the plane take off, Alex's premonition proves deadly, when the plane ignites in a huge explosion in the night sky. Alex's friends and the parents of the dead students have mixed feelings toward him. Although, fellow student Clear Rivers (Ali Larter) is immensely thankful for him saving her life. Clear is the only one who believed Alex, and it's not too soon until Alex has another premonition and one of the students is found strangled to death in his bathroom.

Even though Alex has proved his psychic power, Clear is the only, other person who knows he's telling the truth. Repeatedly questioned by the authorities, Alex takes a mad descent involving death and fate, as he uncovers death's design. Alex knows who is next on the list...but can he save his friends before it's too late?

Originally titled Flight 180, this is a mind-blowing rollercoaster ride of chills, thrills, and special effects. Possibly borrowing the plot of 1984's Sole Survivor, this is not just another teen slasher. The deaths are very shocking and brutal, especially one including an ill-fated teacher, along with a strangulation, decapitation, and others.

Directed by James Wong (TV's X-Files), this film had a test screening before being theatrically released. The results were astounding, and people really enjoyed the movie. Just now seeing the movie on video, I must say this is one of the best horror movies I've seen in awhile. The killer in this one is death, and that is pretty creepy, especially when its dark shadow moves about right before someone's killed.

Watching the movie, I couldn't shrug the feeling that I saw one of the cast members, Ali Larter, somewhere else. After viewing Final Destination, I learned that she was also in the 1999 remake House on Haunted Hill and Drive Me Crazy. If that wasn't enough, she was in the old Imposter Perfume commercials, in which she bounced about, spraying perfume on her censored, naked body! Well, I thought you'd might like to know that bit of information. Highly recommended to anyone, you should definitely see this movie! Be sure to check out the DVD release, complete with deleted scenes, commentary, and some cool games, like the Death Clock.
