Bloody Murder

The film opens up with a young couple's car breaking down in the middle of nowhere. When the guy goes off for help, he's greeted by a man in a hockey mask who kills him (offscreen) with a chainsaw. Actually, this is a story one character is telling the others, as they travel to a summer camp where they'll be working as counselors. The counselors make it apparent by goofing around with an urban legend about a berserked man, Trevor Moorehouse, who still lurks within the nearby woods. They even play a game of Bloody Murder, a twisted game of hide-and-seek, which apparently stirs up some chills in the unsuspecting teens.

One night, as the counselors are watching a film called Sleepover Camp Massacre 14, obviously borrowing from the Sleepaway Camp series, one of the girls ends up missing after going to get a snack, her murder an unknown happening to the naive counselors. Soon, they are all stalked by a hockey-masked murderer who uses a variety of weapons, resulting in many of their deaths.

Final girl Julie McConnell (Jessica Morris) is desperate in attempts to uncover the legend's truth and is soon faced with the outcome of a madman who now wants her dead. Red herrings are thrown about, resulting in a confusing unravelling of the story and the unexpected identity of the killer.

Bloody Murder, obviously ripping off Friday the 13th with its hockey-masked killer, sparked an immediate interest in me and fueled me to watch the movie. Unfortunately, the film turned out to be mildly boring and short on gore. Although, it does have its small advantages amidst the sometimes bad acting.

Strangely enough, but not too surprising when faced with their release of The Blair Witch Project (another camp slasher - kind of), this was released by top-notch production company Artisan Entertainment. You'll get a kick out of some of the cheesy lines, but you'll feel cheated in the plot twist that's thrown out from nowhere just to confuse the viewer. Check it out if you're a nonstop horror movie viewer, but not exactly that entertaining or original.
