Bad Dreams

The film opens up in 1973, where cult Unity Fields is about to commit a mass suicide ordered by their leader Harris (Richard Lynch). After pouring gasoline on all members, Harris lights up the house which ignites in a huge explosion. When the fire fighters arrive, they discover one survivor, Cynthia. Investigators cannot determine the cause of the fire and are unaware of the mass suicide.

Thirteen years later, Cynthia (Jennifer Rubin) awakens from her coma in a hospital bed. She is quite confused and is placed in a "borderline personality" therapy group. During one of their meetings, Cynthia immediately remembers every single detail of what happened. Although, Cynthia starts to wish she never woke up when Harris comes back from the dead because of her promise to die with everyone else. Harris is very angry and forces members of Cynthia's therapy group to commit suicide. Cynthia's new friends are dying quickly, and no one believes what she says. Cynthia made a promise of death, and Harris wants her to go with him...

Similar to Jennifer Rubin's previous film, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream WarriorsBad Dreams is also set in a hospital where several people are being killed. The Time Has Come Today by the Chambers Brothers is used a lot throughout the film, especially during Cynthia's dreams. The unexpected plot twist stunned me, and the film is thoroughly enjoyable with its great amount of gore. Bruce Abbott plays Dr. Alex Karmen, the head of the therapy group. Look closely for E.G. Daily (voice of Tommy on TV's Rugrats) as therapy group member Lana. Dean Cameron, who also starred in Summer School later on, can also be spotted in the therapy group. Recommended for an entertaining, good time!
