BROOKLYN - En el complejo residental "Borinquen Plaza" reside y trabaja el artista Joseph A. Burgos, Jr., nativo de Hato Rey, P.R. cuyas pinturas se han exhibido en muchas galerias y quien ahora produce videos que resaltan diversos aspectos de la cultura borinqueña. Recientemente estuvo Joseph en un acto que la Casa de la Herencia Cultural PR dedico a recordar el natalicio, vida, obra y muerte de la poetisa Julia de Burgos. Joseph A. Burgos brega ahora con una idea que le inquietaba hace tiempo y que describe como "recoger en grabaciones y videos el esfuerzo que hacen los centros culturales de New York para reforzar, mantener y divulgar la cultura y la herencia puertorriqueña.

Burgos: Muchísimas gracias por el envío de los vídeos de los recitales que usted ha realizado sobre la obra de su tia Julia de Burgos, obra inmensamente apreciada por nosotros. Los trabajos de recopilación que usted ha hecho son de gran valía y de notable importancia. Ciertamente el recuerdo de la obra de su tia que usted realiza a través de sus videos, engrandece la obra de esta insigne poeta y la mantiene en el sólido sitial que conserva como una de las primeras poetas de América. Su trabajo nutre de manera notable la bibliografía que sobre ella conservamos y extiende el conocimiento que teníamos de la familia Burgos y de como ella contribuyó y sigue contribuyendo en favor de esta importantísima obra. Podemos afirmar que el hermano de Julia de Burgos, a través de este trabajo honra profundamente su amor por ella. PEREGRINAR ES AMAR Y OTROS POEMAS by JOSE FEDERICO BURGOS

The poetry of Jose Federico Burgos is about those beautiful times in Puerto Rico that transports us to the Borinquen Culture full of flowers and flamboyan trees. The Castilian accent was heard in his declamations in a manner of dramatization; then Jose received the attention of all and accompanied by a tremendous applause. "Fundidos novia y rio" was the posthumous homage that Jose Federico Burgos wrote for his sister Julia de Burgos when she died in 1953. An interesting poem is "El coqui", with its passage from Spain to Borinquen and a longing for the well being of the Coqui in Puerto Rico. This poem was recited many times by the poet Burgos. Another poem is about the love of a son for his mother; it's very sentimental, especially when being recited. The experience of Jose with his father Francisco Burgos Hans is compared with the adventures of Don Quijote because they mounted on horse and adventured the countryside, mountains and rivers, and sometimes sat in the cemetery to rest, chew sugarcane, do stories and continue on the way. His father educated him in Puerto Rican folkloric literature and the verses of the Bible. His poetry is about those unforgettable times and Jose Federico Burgos expresses it for his love of Puerto Rico. This work was written for lovers of poetry.
