When
a small meteorite falls from outer space, it unleashes a gel like substance
that every time it devours someone, it grows…and grows…and grows.
To teenagers must find a way to stop the creature before it eats
everyone in the town.
My
Review: Okay, we aren’t talking rocket
science here but this is a fun movie and certified cult classic.
Sporting an early performance by a way too old Steve McQueen as a high
school student, the movie is heightened by the lack of knowledge and the fear
of the Cold War.
The effects for the film,
though they extremely primitive today, were state of the art in 1958.
One of the standout scenes of the feature is the running of teens from
a movie theater as the Blob oozes its way unto the city streets.
Overall:
Fun film. Not a great
film, but a lot of fun. Seek out
the Criterion edition for the best looking transfer and letterboxing.
Plus the commentary track is a lot of fun as well.
