RESIDENT EVIL

Director(s): Paul Anderson III

Writer(s): Paul Anderson III

Cast: Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez, Eric Mabius, James Purefoy, Pasquale Aleardi, Stephen Billington, Anna Bolt, Jaymes Butler, Heike Makatsch, Michaela Dicker

Synopsis: In Raccoon City there is a large company called Umbrella which is the largest suppiler of many items. They also are the creaters of the T-Virus, which turns humans into zombies. Too bad the company had to find out the hardway. The Virus is accidentally released and a special team has been sent in to fix the zombie problem.

My Review: When I first heard they were making a movie to the kick ass playstation games, I was psyched. I couldn't wait to see who they casted, and how well they pulled off the storyline. Once it was announced that it wasn't going to really follow the whole video game storyline my expectations dropped.

They dropped even farther once I actually got to see the film. They didn't pull the whole thing off the way I had hoped. Maybe they will explain it in a sequel or something.

Did anyone else go into the theater thinking that Milla Jovovich was going to play Jill Valentine or Claire Redfield? I know I did. Maybe they just renamed her or something, but I really thought they should have used the same names.

I also felt a little cheated because I thought that it should have been a little more like the video game. I can't say too much without giving away the entire ending, I'll try though. I would have loved to see the team in the Mansion from the video game, trying to figure out how to escape, or possibly even the police station from the second video game. I really thought however they would explore the town more, like Jill Valentine in the third video game. In the game there were very few times that the character was totally surrounded by zombies, sure there were the times that there were 8 or so standing around, but not 100 like a certain scene in the film. I felt that the zombies needed more on screen time. Did it annoy anyone that the S.T.A.R.S weren't in the film? Maybe they were and I just didn't catch it, but boy was it confusing as to who was who.

Gore: Had they shown a little more of the killing, and zombies actually bleeding like they do in the game, it would have been a really gory film, so I understand why they didn't make it that gory. But there were a few kills that I would have loved to see the end result of. Such as right before the team gets into the computers main chamber.

Character Development: None. The character development to me was way too confusing. In fact, we only hear people's names 1 or 2 times if we are lucky. The most we find out is that "someone" was going to steal the virus before it was leaked out. If I go into farther detail I'll give stuff away, so I'll try to stay away from that.

Sexual Content: Minimal in flashbacks, and we get a small shot of Alice's (Millia Jovovich) nipples. Other then that nothing.

Acting: The acting wasn't bad at all, but I couldn't stand Rain (Michelle Rodriguez) she wasn't believable, until a certain point in the film, and I just kept thinking to myself, "Can a zombie please eat her already"

Overall: Put it this way, if they make a sequel I'll see it, in hopes that it will explain this film.
