FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2

Director(s): Steve Miner

Writer(s): Ron Kurz

Cast: Amy Steel, John Furey, Adrienne King, Kristen Baker, Stuart Charno, Warrington Gillette

Synopsis: After the massacre at Camp Crystal Lake, you would think that people would be a bit wearier, but nonetheless, a new group of counselors attempts to make camp.  One by one, they meet the same fates as those before them.  But this time, who is doing the killing, and why?

My Review: Friday the 13th Part 2 is one of my favorites in the series.  Not only for the awesome cast of likeable people, but for the smarts that the movie entails.

Steve Miner’s first direction of a Friday film is solid.  From the initial eeriness of the opening sequence to the climatic conclusion, Miner leaves a notion that not only is he directing the film, but also knows the genre.

Another standout of the movie is the performance of Amy Steele as the hero.  Not only does she deliver an honest performance, but also her character doesn’t fall into the same trappings of most in a horror title.  Instead, she plays “Ginny” as a rather intelligent woman who isn’t set out to become anyone’s victim.

The films owes much of its kill’s to Mario Bava classic “Bay of Blood,” renamed as “Twitch of the Death Nerve” in the states.  Being this, Friday 2, even tried to be as bloody as the Bava classic.  In turn, the MPAA rewarded the movie with a rating of “X.”  The film’s gore scenes were considerably trimmed down, and now is the stuff of horror folklore since it has never been scene, except for only in stills.

Overall: If you enjoyed the first film, the second is sure to please.  It only helps to extend the legend of Pamela and Jason and therefore it is a fan favorite.
