Synopsis:
200
years after Ripley’s sacrifice, she is back, but this time genetically
crosses with her human and alien chromosomes.
“The Company” is now in control of the Alien species, or so they
think. And a pirate ship crew is
sent, unknown to them that one of their crewmembers is on a mission of their
own, to destroy Ripley.
My
Review: Out of the four films in the Alien series, this one is to say
the least, the weaker one. Though
the presence of Weaver, awesomely strong and buff, is welcomed and respected,
but unlike the other films, her supporting cast is filled with these then
desirable individuals that you basically learn to care little about.
The film is breathtaking
beautiful in nature, and delivers some fine sequences, both in character
development and battle scenes, but lies flat in between.
One of my favorite scenes in the film is when Ripley and the Pirate
crew come up a room containing the failed clones of her and how she reacts.
Another is the amazing underwater scene that is one of my favorite
scenes throughout the entire four-entry run.
There is no denying the
horrible beauty of the Alien’s in this one as they are designed with
painstaking detail, but at most times, you can tell that CGI is relied upon to
heavily.
Ryder only goes to prove
that she never be in a action movie, nor the less Sci Fi with an anemic
performance of the cyborg that is out to destroy our hero.
The end sequence with
Ripley facing ‘her child’ is not effective.
A scene that should show beauty and elegance is wasted upon a poorly
designed creature and ending (AGAIN) taken from a previous film.
Overall:
The best thing about the film is Weaver.
She is certainly one of America’s most under rated actress. Everything else seems flat and basically boring.
Ripley deserves better than this.
Basically a film for Alien fans only.
