When Asked What Was Our Favorite Scene, We Had A Lot To Say

mine personally is when they reach the cave and Boyd and Reich go in to search the cave. Calqhoun goes crazy and kills everyone and Boyd jumps off the cliff and rolls down the hill with Reich. I absolutely love this part because of all of the action. I just wish that Reich wouldn't have gotten killed...he was like...the coolest out of the bunch at Fort Spencer. I also enjoyed seeing Toffler get slaughtered (i'm not crazy it's just that...he just...he just needed to get slaughtered especially since he escaped death in S.P.R. after allowing that poor Jew boy to die). And the music during these scenes... indescribable...the best songs on the Soundtrack. I love "Let's go Kill that Bastard" and "The Cave".

I have two fave scenes actually....The fireside chat, where Ives tells boyd how he became who and what he is......He seems so interested in passing on this information. Almost like a Father teaching his son about the facts of life......Then there is that undercurrent of unresolved sexual tension between the two which is so tangable it grabs you by the collar and doesn't even let you look away for a second. The other scene I Adore with all of my being is the "Cannibal Fantasy." Just because I have never liked David Arquette......Seeing Guy just rip into him and eat a hunk of flesh from his body has fulfilled many a nighttime fantasy for me.....Especially after the Scream Movies.....

The DVD contains deleted scenes which kinda flesh out the charater of Riech, and explains why he dislikes Boyd so much. It's worth every penny to get the movie in this format....besides the Deleted scenes, the Audio Comentary by Robert Carlyle is very informative, not to mention funny.

I have a few, mainly the fireside chat, the whole "Remember this? Can you smell it? The scent always jogs the memory, don't you think? Remember the feeling of someone else coursing through your veins, someone brave? The disappointment as it fades. The strength slipping from your grasp. The growing, killing need to replenish? But I don't need to remind you of that.....You're feeling it right now." So great, really makes Ives' character there and apparent.

I also like the part when Ives is making Stew and Major Knox asks if he can help and Ives says "No, but maybe later you can contribute." and Knox just say "You let me know." I mean how funny is that? That was great. I also love the jump off the cliff scene and Robert Carlyle's reaction afterwards. Just a great film, really.

The DVD is worth getting for all the extras alone, let alone that you get the film in widescreen format - the way every movie should be made.

That whole segment is great where Jeffrey Jones is doing a run down of who is in the camp. The lines are classic, after we see Reich he says "Best to steer clear of him." and that sort. The fact that Knox used to be a vet so he acts as the doctor is a joke in itself but then he adds. "My suggestion to you is: don't get sick." and then we have Cleeves and George smoking a peace pipe. I mean, that five minutes of the film is a riot in itself. I forgot to mention another part I just love when Jeffrey Jones is chasing the chickens out of the 'lawn' (I guess) and says "Run for you lives." That makes me laugh, and on the DVD's Robert Carlyle's commentary he notes that that was improvised on Jones' part. Classic.

My fave scenes is when Carlyle is about to shoot Davies but he runs out of ammo and takes out his knife and says, "run". And Davies wimpers and runs away. My other fave scene is when Pearce is cornered on the cliff by Carlyle so he throws his gun at him and says "get away from me". That was hilarious.

Some of my favorite scenes are :

1) Boyd first arrives in Fort Spencer, he looked like an explorer who just discovered new land!

2) When Boyd is first being introduced by Colonel Hart, and Hart can sense how quiet & withdrawn Boyd is and offers Boyd a cracked walnut. I thought that was kind of funny!

3) The funny & strange scene where Toffler accuses Ives of "licking me."

4) The cave exploration scene between Boyd & Reich! The cave looked very spooky inside!

5) The forest chase and cliff jumping scene! That is one of the best action sequences ever!

(Toffler and Reich were both more interesting than Cleaves. After watching the DVD, there are a few cut scenes that would have better explained Reich dislike of Boyd, but alas they were cut. Without viewing these cut scenes, where we see Reich calling Boyd "War Hero" and not in a complementary way, it leave the viewer going "What?!" when Reich suddenly chokes Boyd before dying)

6) When Boyd is trapped inside some kind of hole with dead Reich, and then ends up eating a piece of Reich after nearly dying of starvation and then sort of gets up and says in horror "Oh God" because that's when he realizes that he has just become a cannibal himself!

7) When Boyd returns to Fort Spencer, and crumbles in the ground and is visibly shaking in fear after seeing Ives/Colqhoan again! I really felt bad for Boyd, because I could really sense his fear!

8) When Boyd is bleeding on the dinner table scene and Hart & Ives is patiently waiting that he also eats the "stew ala Major Knocks" and then finally does!

9) The fantasy dream sequence when Boyd imagines cutting up & eating up David Arquette! That was pretty gross & funny!

10) The fireside chat scene between Boyd & Ives! You can really sense the sexual tension between them! Remember when Ives reaches his bloody hand out slowly towards Boyd's face, and then abruptly pulls his hand away from Boyd! You can really tell that Boyd was somewhat attracted to Ives, and wanted a taste of him!

11) When Boyd and Ives die together in the bear trap! I guess it was only fitting that they died together. They were like Romeo & Juliet(Ives being Romeo & Boyd being Juliet.) They were like two tragic lovers in a doomed ill-fated love affair! In Romeo & Juliet, Romeo died first and then Juliet! Ives died first and then Boyd dies! Interesting huh?

I liked the scene when Colqhoun is in the tub being warmed up. RC said that was meant to be a Jesus like image. We looked it with his arms outstretched and the band on his head.

This scene shows the covered up tattoo. The tattoo is of a lizard, the tail is just above the vaccination scar.

The scene near the end with the General tasting the soup and there is a long pause before he says something. I was afraid the he was going to say "Taste like chicken" It would been terrible.

Ha!! There's so many. I love when Colqhune just starts losing it when Boyd and Reich are in the cave. It's classic when he digs up the knife and then walks back over towards Toffler and then goes back. Then he's like "ok, i'm alright now." That is so cool and unique because he adds to the confusion and takes them right off guard.

I also think that the "stew ala Major Knox" scene is funny. Ives classic line "You know, Ben Franklin once said Eat to Live, don't Live to Eat...uh...uh?!" then he looks at Boyd and Hart like "I know i'm a stud and i just made a great philosphizing moment." That's fucking funny!

I also like the "licking me" part and the part where Boyd falls down when seeing Ives for the first time.

Did anyone else find it funny at the end when Ives still finds time to laugh and make a joke with "that was...really...sneaky" Woo!!!

All right, cool, thanks a lot. that part is funny.

I got pretty much the same results when I showed this movie to my friends. half of them liked it and the other half hated it...and me for making them watch it. But deep down...I know they liked it...who wouldn't...i mean, they were totally into it. Especially when Boyd jumped off the cliff. they were on the edge of their seat...i know it.

In the final scenes when Boyd ate the stew containing Knox, I'd like to think he did that as he heard from Hart that Knox was surprisingly strong and he wanted this strength in order to kill Ives. He killed Hart at his request because he empathised with his situation. It is a classic good against evil tale.

The scene that led me to realise Boyd was also Wendingo was when he questioned Colqhoun on the trip to the cave about how he felt after he had eaten people. This scene was ended suddenly when (Toffler) fell down the slope.

There are so many mind games between Boyd and Hart. I love the scene where Ives is introduced to Boyd and says 'How's the leg?' and the conotation is that he's not just enquiring about his physical injury but about eating the other soldier's leg.

The tension between Ives and Boyd is great. Ives cannot understand why Boyd resists being a cannibal but the difference between them is that Ives made a free choice, Boyd did not. Ives was dying from TB, heard the story about Wendigo from his Indian guide and chose this pathway to life. Boyd, however, had this pathway accidentally inflicted on him when he nearly choked on the blood of his dead comrades in the Mexican-American war, and even though it gave him the strength and courage to single handedly capture the enemy outpost, he's not happy about it. Ives 'eats to live' but Boyd doesn't want to have to live like this.

The uniforms in this movie are very beautiful, with their forage caps, tunics, sashes and dirty beaten down look, quite a change that what we saw in North and South. For me, my favorite scene was him descending into the brink of madness when he is stacked like cordwood between the bodies of his dead countryman, as flies buzz around him. The opening scene with him staring at his fellow officers devour their meat, while the immortal stanzas of Hail Columbia blare, is also quite powerful.
