PLEASE COME TO BOSTON
Chapter Seven

Three years had passed quickly. Rose and Jack graduated from Harvard and moved into a small house.

"Jack, will you help me, please?" Rose asked.

"Sure," Jack said, getting up out of his chair.

Suddenly, the phone rang. It was Kara.

"Hello?" Rose asked.

"Hey, Rosie. It's Kara," she replied.

"Hey, Kara. How's it going?" Rose asked.

"Slowly, but surely," Kara replied.

"What happened?" Rose asked.

"Joey left yesterday night and he's not back yet," Kara said.

"Why did he leave?" Rose asked.

"We got into an argument," Kara said.

"Over what?" Rose asked.

"Name something," Kara said.

"Have you called Lacey?" Rose asked.

"No. Let me try over there and I'll call you back," Kara said.

"Okay. Bye, Kara," Rose said.

"Bye, Rose," Kara replied.

Rose turned the phone off and put it back on the charger.

"What was that about?" Jack asked.

"Kara and Joey got into an argument. Joey left and he's not back home yet," Rose said.

"Rose, come here," Jack said, directing Rose over to him.

"What?" Rose asked, sitting on his lap.

"You know something?" Jack asked.

"What?" Rose asked.

"Tomorrow is our five year anniversary," Jack said.

"One can only imagine what you have in mind for us to do," Rose said.

"Well, I'm going to give you part of the present right now," Jack said.

Rose got up. "What is it?"

"Just sit down and close your eyes," Jack said.

Rose obeyed and sat down and closed her eyes.

"Jack?" Rose asked.

"What?" Jack asked.

"Should I be scared?" Rose asked.

"No," Jack replied.

"Okay," Rose said.

"Okay, Rose. Open your eyes," Jack said.

Rose opened her eyes to a small basket covered by a blanket.

"Open it," Jack said.

Rose lifted the blanket and found two beagle puppies inside.

"Oh, Jack. Thank you," Rose said, hugging him.

"Their names are Flag and Kelsey," Jack said.

Rose picked up one of the puppies and found a tiny collar with a name on it.

"This is Flag. So this one must be Kelsey," Rose said, picking up the other puppy.

"I knew you were in love with dogs. So I got two of them for you to raise," Jack said.

Rose hugged Jack. "Thank you, Jack."

Jack kissed Rose. When they pulled apart, Jack looked at Rose, and said, "It was no problem for the one person in the world I love."

Jack hugged Rose and they took the puppies into their room and played with them all afternoon.
