ICE ANGEL
Chapter Four
Jack sighed as he stepped off of the plane.
Tommy, Fabri, and he were finally in Santa Monica.
Rose smiled. "Jack!"
Jack dropped his bags and pulled Rose into a
tight embrace.
"Rosie," he whispered.
"I missed you," Rose said.
Jack nodded and replied, "I missed
you."
Beally saw Tommy. "Hey!"
Tommy hugged his longtime girlfriend.
"Hey, Beally."
Beally gave Tommy a kiss. "Hey, sweetie.
How have you been?" Beally giggled.
"Missing you like crazy."
Rose and Jack directed their attention to
Holly and Fabrizio, who were holding tightly to each other.
"Looks like we're not the only lonely
ones," Rose stated.
Jack shook his head. "Looks like
it."
"I missed you," Fabrizio said.
Holly smiled. "I've missed you so
much."
"So, where to, everybody?" Jack
inquired.
The group looked at Rose and Jack, whose
hands were clasped tightly together.
"I say we go to the mall," Holly
said.
"We know you do," Tommy said,
putting his arm around Beally.
Rose looked at Jack. "Do you mind going
to the mall?"
"Sure, let's get going!" Jack said,
leading the way, with Rose close by his side.
Fabrizio and Holly made their way to a bench
outside of Abercrombie and Fitch and started making out.
"Get a room!" Tommy shouted, but
got neither of their attention.
Rose laughed. "I don't think they can
hear you, Tommy."
"Rosie, can we talk?" Jack asked.
Rose, confused, nodded and followed Jack. He
led her over to a bench.
"Jack?" Rose said, trying to read
his face.
"We...I mean we're..." Jack
couldn't find the right words. "Close."
Rose nodded. "I know."
"And, I love you so much, Rose."
Jack took Rose's hand. "But...I mean..."
"What is it, Jack?" Rose asked.
"Rose...I think we should break
up," Jack replied.
Rose shook her head. "Wait..."
"Rose, I'm sorry," Jack replied.
Rose stood up. "You're sorry? For
what?"
Jack looked at Rose. "For..."
Rose didn't let him finish. "Oh, that's
right. For breaking my heart, right?"
Before Jack had another chance to say
anything, Rose walked away.
"Jack, what just happened?" Tommy
asked, slowly walking over to him.
"I broke up with her," Jack
replied.
"Why would you do something like
that?" Tommy asked.
Jack shook his head, and walked away from
Tommy. He had to find Rose. He had just made a big mistake.
*****
Rose sat outside on her front porch steps.
Her best friend and boyfriend had just broken up with her. She was left to
ponder.
"Guys, huh?" Rose was brought back
at the sound of this voice.
There, in front of her, was Tristan Marsh.
"Tristan?"
"The one and only," Tristan
replied.
Rose hugged her old boyfriend. "It's
good to see you."
Tristan nodded. "How have you
been?"
"Single," Rose replied, now
thinking back to this afternoon.
"You and Jack actually..." Tristan
started.
"He broke up with me," Rose cut in.
Tristan couldn't believe his ears. "So,
does this give me room to at least flirt?"
Rose laughed. "Sure, go right
ahead."
Rose and Tristan sat on her front porch for
the rest of the day. They talked about everything, from school to Rose's
performance a few months earlier. In the end, Rose decided she would be going
back to Belding as soon as she could.
*****
Jack parked his car a few houses down from
Rose's. He slowly approached her house. He heard laughing out front, and he saw
Rose sitting next to that guy...Tristan.
"So, friends?" Tristan asked.
Jack saw Rose nod. "Sure."
Jack's heart broke at what happened next.
Tristan leaned in and kissed Rose. He couldn't believe it.
"Rose..."
Rose pulled away from Tristan.
"Jack?"
Jack shook his head, and walked away.
Rose watched Jack walk away. She then turned
back to Tristan, and they both went into her house and watched TV. Rose,
however, could still not forget seeing Jack.
