Trivia...OF THE DEAD!!!!
No, this is not trivia as in a game. It's trivial little things only geeks like me know. If you know this, and you're not a geek...well, you're in denial. But take heed, geek brothers! This knowledge may come in handy some day. But probably not.
Goof Ups and Weird Stuff
- If you watch closely, at the end of The Evil Dead's credits, you might see people listed as "Fake Shemps". The story behind that can be found on The Fake Shemps Fan Site
- In Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn, in the scene in which Ash has to retrieve the pages of the Necronomicon from the fruit cellar, you can see that his chainsaw switches hands, stump and all. It's a fun little bit of nonsense, but please don't bother Mr. Bruce Campbell with it, after all, the man singlehandedly *b-dump!* saved the world three or four times.
- In Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn, Ash cuts a length of the barrel off of his shotgun with his new chainsaw/hand. Yet in Army Of Darkness, the shotgun is at it's original length. Hmmmmm...
- At the end of Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn, when Ash faces the "Rotten Apple Head" demon, Ash's hair turns gray along his temple. Uhh...on only one side of his head. D'oh!
- In Japan Army Of Darkness is called "Captain Supermarket". Reader ROTTING DEAD informs me that he's seen it called "Ash, Housewares" as well. I don't know which one's goofier. Thanks ROTTING DEAD!
- Now, I hate Scotty just as much as the next guy. But did you ever notice Ash waits to beat him up until AFTER the trees maim him? I mean come on! And not only that, but the "water" Ash serves him is yellow. Mama always said beware the yellow snow. I just avoid yellow water anyway.
- Sam Raimi's famous movie-star car, in case you want specifics, is a yellow 1973 Delta 88 Oldsmobile Classic. And lemme tell ya, that car gets around.
- Sam Raimi's original intent according to Ash's fate was that he died at the end of The Evil Dead. It's kind of neat to watch the movie with that idea in mind. No offense, Ash.
- Contrary to popular belief, Evil Dead 2 is NOT a remake of The Evil Dead. The first five or so minutes of the movie is a remake of sorts, to fill in any viewers who hadn't seen the first film in the series. They cut away the dead wood (no offense Cheryl, Scotty and Shelly.) and did a bang up job of attaching the two movies flawlessly. So next time, watch them in order. I think you'll spot where the continuation of the story begins.
- I've heard people's different opinions of Evil Dead 2, and the way they view the movie. Some take the easy route and say "okay, this guy Ash is trapped in a cabin that's overrun by demons.", but that's not the only way to look at it. Some theories conclude that Ash did in fact die at the end of The Evil Dead, and he's gone to hell for ED2 and AOD. Or you could think perhaps he went insane, killed all of his friends in the first movie and we follow his delusion to the end of Army Of Darkness. Pretty interesting thoughts, remember them when you watch the movies next time.
- There are two songs I've heard that have samples (audio clips) from Evil Dead movies. One is the annoying "People Are Still Having Sex" by...Oh I don't know. There's also "Who's Laughing Now" by Skinny Puppy. There's supposed to be one by either KMFDM or MFDMK...or whatever. Is it the same band and they got a new dislexic manager or what? Anyway, if you find any others e-mail me, I'd love to hear it.
- The Evil Dead was the number one rental video in England for the year of 1983.
- The Evil Dead was originally titled "Book Of The Dead".
- The Evil Dead is based on a Super 8 short film directed by Sam Raimi and starring Bruce Campbell as the monster, a little movie called "Within The Woods".
- In AOD watch for the first witch to be possessed. No, not the one in the pit. The one who throws the pot of boiling water in a knight's face, "She Bitch". That actress, Patricia Tallman, is the very same actress who portrayed Barbara in Tom Savini's remake of Night Of The Living Dead. Now doesn't that little nugget of joy make all this internet stuff worthwhile? I thought so.
- A character resembling Ash appeared as a villain on Canadian CG cartoon "ReBoot". Read all about it here.
- If you listen VERY closely, you can hear Ash's disembodied hand (lovingly referred to as "Fisty" around here) say "son of a bitch!" after he... er... IT gets caught in the mouse-trap.
- Sam Raimi had originally intended Ash to lose an eye in Army of Darkness.
